Inspired by the lifestyle and lure of coastal living, Jesse Miller – a local surfer and lifeguard, former North Shore resident and overall beach enthusiast – shares his passion for the surf through the expressions of his art. From surf culture and shoreline waves, to wildlife depictions, coastal panoramas and sunset vistas, Jesse Miller is an active observer and participant in the environment that surrounds him, capturing the beauty and emotion of the ocean.
“I think the oceans and beaches are the greatest places on earth,” states Miller. “The conditions and lighting are always changing and always offering something new, and beautiful – [it’s a] challenge to paint. I like the idea of artists being ‘Pointers’ in that [we] show things to people – I like showing [others] what I look for and enjoy seeing, whether it’s my favorite place to surf or [spend time] with my family, my favorite sea or [wild]life, or any number of cool things.”
Miller’s work has been displayed both in Hawaii and California, and is currently available at The Corner Frame Shop and Art Gallery in Leucadia, Hansen’s Surf Shop in Encinitas, Pangea Outpost in Pacific Beach and Birdrock Surf Shop in La Jolla. The artist is compiling a collection for a children’s book in progress, and hosts monthly classes focusing on watercolor techniques.
