On October 18th, 2018, the 56th annual Gourmet Dinner was held at the beautiful Hyatt Regency La Jolla raising over $560,000 for Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Diego County. This year’s theme, ‘Field of Dreams’, was inspired by the Person of the Year Tom Seidler of the San Diego Padres, who was honored at the event. Seidler is Senior Vice-President of Community & Military Affairs for the Major League Baseball organization and a devoted supporter of Big Brothers Big Sisters.
A lavish seafood cocktail party started the evening, giving guests a chance to mingle before being seated at their table for the more formal portion of the evening. Former professional baseball player and Padres broadcaster, Mark Grant hosted the evening. The Community Champion Award was presented to former Police Chief Shelley Zimmerman. The celebration following the Gourmet Dinner includes drinks, cigars, and live music from Ryan Hiller.
“I’m a big believer in the positive, sometimes life-changing impact that Big Brothers Big Sisters has on the youth of San Diego,” Seidler said. “It’s an organization I’m happy to support personally and through the Padres. It’s a wonderful honor to be recognized as Person of the Year.”
Big Brothers Big Sisters is the nation’s largest and most successful mentoring organization, bringing together mentors (‘Bigs’) to act as positive role models to their mentees (‘Littles’). The money raised from this year’s Gourmet Dinner will fun 560 matches for the next year.
