Packing Essentials for Your Upcoming Vacation
Summer is rapidly approaching and your vacation is just around the corner, which means some preparations are in order. It’s time you start packing and planning the details of your trip, and anyone who has ever done this knows that it’s not always fun and games. If you usually pack much more than you need to take with you on your vacation, perhaps it’s time you change your approach and packing tactics. Overpacking is a common mistake that people make because they fear they might forget something at home, but it can be avoided. Here’s what you should do:
Understand your destination
Doing some research on your intended destination is a must because you should check to see several important factors first. The weather forecast is important because you don’t want to pack clothes that are too skimpy or too warm. Also, the weather is very different in different parts of the same country, let alone the same continent, so be thorough: Switzerland, Spain, and Ireland might all be in Europe, but their climates are as different as can be. Of course, some things are a must-have no matter where you go: a rain jacket and a warm hoodie are always good to keep close, but if the weather forecast predicts hot and sunny days, you should really shorten the list of things you want to bring “just in case.”
Make a list
Writing a list of things you need to bring with you will make the packing process so much easier. First, you will be sure that you didn’t forget anything. Second, when written down on a piece of paper, things are usually much clearer and you can easily add or erase something before you start packing. This leaves some room for mistakes and rethinking because it is much easier to scratch something out from a list than it is to take it out from the bottom of a half-packed suitcase.
Choose versatile clothes
When choosing what clothes to pack, we’re tempted to bring things we haven’t worn in a while in hopes we’ll get a chance to wear them on our vacation. Make sure you pack your favorite pieces as well as those pieces that can be paired well if you get a chance to go out for dinner or a party. It’s important that you feel comfortable and confident on your vacation so avoid packing several pairs of high heels. You should rather opt for comfortable Arizona Birkenstock sandals, glittery flats and your beloved Nike sneakers. Black leggings are as comfy and versatile as it gets, and a simple brooch or a necklace will transform an ordinary top into an elegant one.
When you pack, try to use every inch of available space in your suitcase. Remember to push out the air from your T-shirts by rolling them instead of folding them, place your socks and belts inside your shoes, and don’t try to pack your entire bathroom in. Remember that a big shampoo bottle will take up a lot of space, and you can easily take a smaller bottle instead. You can also choose what beauty products you can live without and buy smaller packages for the ones you want to take with you.
If you usually pack too many things when you go on a vacation, perhaps it’s time to change your packing routine and try something new. Try not to bring a ton of clothes but rather, think about your outfits in advance and pack items that are handy and versatile. After all, you don’t want to end up with severe back pain from too heavy suitcases nor do you want to worry about additional fees on airports.
