Our sunny San Diego is a place of year-round summer vibes where people from around the world gather to soak every golden ray of sun—and enjoy some of the finest dining in between trips to the beach. In recent years, San Diego’s restaurant scene has bloomed and more new eateries are popping up in great locations around the city. Food from all over the globe is used to inspire menus and various world cuisines somehow always find their way to San Diego.
FINE magazine discovers some of the new, fresh faces on the restaurant scene:
Herb and Eatery, Little Italy
When in search for a new breakfast place or grabbing a quick slice of pizza, head out to Herb and Eatery Café which features some new and interesting toppings you’re sure to enjoy. This new cafe opened in October 2017 and has a flavorful menu with tasty bagel plates, garlic hummus or cheese plates, and a variety of salads and sandwiches that are just begging for a side of root fries. Go ahead and schedule your visit to Herb and Eatery early in the morning—their tasty pastries are fresh out of the oven every morning at 7 a.m.
Bluewater Grill, Carlsbad
Lovely Carlsbad Village is Bluewater Grill’s seventh location in Southern California and it's the perfect spot to place a restaurant serving up to 40 different fish varieties. With a full service fish market, Bluewater Grill makes your choice easy when you're craving seafood for dinner. Seasonal specials, neighborhood Happy Hour, and monthly chef tastings are offered to all fish lovers who find themselves browsing through the village wanting to grab a delicious bite.
Bar Bodega, Little Italy
Spanish cheese board, Spanish tapas, bocadillos, or Catalan cream—whatever you choose, Bar Bodega’s menu has plenty of Spanish secret treats worth tasting. Bodega’s Happy Hour is a great opportunity to stop by and try some Patatas Bravas or Chorizo Devilled Eggs and Sangria at this cozy place. Little Italy added this new spot on the block in April of last year, so make sure to add it to your dining rotation if you haven't already.
Pisco Rotisserie and Cevicheria, Point Loma
A Peruvian restaurant with world-class Chef, Emmanuel Piqueras, located on Liberty Station is a new place trying to catch the hearts of San Diegans. Since opening in Point Loma this last summer, Pisco is sharing Peruvian flavors with San Diego. Chef Piqueras, born in Peru and introduced as Peru’s culinary ambassador to the U.S., has cooked for U.S. presidents, First Lady of Peru, and the Queen of Spain. Delicious recommendations from Pisco’s menu include Peruvian ceviches, Causitas—chilled and whipped Peruvian potatoes, and the amazing Peruvian rotisserie chicken which spends 48 hours marinating in a Peruvian spice mix.
Yard House and Lucha Libre Taco Shop, Carlsbad
Both restaurants are new to the Carlsbad neighborhood and both are serving premium food in a unique modern setting which includes an outdoor patio, giving a sophisticated touch to the entire Carlsbad Shoppes area. Yard House’s extensive menu has every crave-worthy dish you can imagine—house favorites with a variety of chicken dishes, seafood, steaks and ribs, street tacos, sandwiches and pizza. Having such a large dining space, Yard House is organizing small and big parties, everything from bridal or corporate events, to private parties or celebrations, so there are plenty of reasons to dine here.
Lucha Libre Taco Shop is not just an ordinary Mexican eatery, aside from being a culinary destination, Lucha Libre's ambience is a colorful window to Mexico's culture and artwork. This is their first location in North County and they invite you to try their famous burritos, enchiladas, and tacos.
The restaurant scene is getting bigger year after year and with many upcoming restaurants soon to open, we are looking forward to trying out all of the best items from these new menus. One of the most anticipated among them is Punch Bowl Social in East Village, which is known as one of the fastest growing hospitality chains in the U.S. This restaurant is a southern style Mecca that offers an abundance of fun with their meals—entertainment for everyone’s taste from this bowling alley, bar, arcade, and karaoke fusion.
