The New Years Guide on getting rid of Blackheads!

When you meet someone for the first time, it’s your eyes that first connect, next you may quickly scan their face then check out their teeth as they are speaking and finally you may look to see what they are wearing - right?

First impressions are important to most of us, especially when you are meeting someone for the first time. Whether it is someone you really like, a potential client that you want to win over or a prospective new employer, putting your best foot forward is the behavior we tend to have.

Did you know within the first seven seconds of meeting, people will have a solid impression of who you are and some research suggests a tenth of a second is all it takes to start determining traits like trustworthiness.

On average, people in the USA spend $300,000 in their lifetime on beauty products.

Do you know what causes blackheads to show on your skin?

Basically, blackheads are clogged hair follicles which occur when dead skin cells and oils collect and clog the opening of a hair follicle. The collection of skin and oil is then exposed to the air, which causes it to look black. The fact is blackheads appear dark or black because it is oxidized, not because your skin is dirty.

Why does it seem everytime you have a very important interview, client meeting, date or speaking engagement you wake up with that very large whitehead on your cheek the morning of your event- you know the one you can’t possibly cover with makeup? It’s the same basic reason blackheads are formed. When the opening of hair follicles in your skin gets clogged with sebum and dead skin cells, it creates a bump. If the skin stays closed it creates a whitehead.

Be ambitious about your skincare goals this year.

On an average, women spend 25% of their “monthly beauty budget” on skincare alone. A youthful appearance is on the forefront of most people's minds, regardless of age or gender. At the top of the list is getting rid of acne, clearing up blackheads, shrinking pore size and fading or eliminating hyperpigmentation (dark spots).

We typically find those with oily and combination skin types get blackheads; primarily in their T-zone, than those with Dry Skin. The question I get every week when discussing skin concerns with my clients, is what is the best product and tools to use to get rid of blackheads and how to prevent them from coming back?

Start with the basic fundamentals of caring for your skin and good habits with your At-Home skincare regimen.

Wash your skin twice a day (morning and bedtime) using lukewarm water and a gentle cleanser. If you exercise, it's best if you shower and wash your face (three times a day) following your workout. Sweating can lead to bacteria and oil on your skin, which can cause blackheads.

I strongly recommend using a face cleanser that has salicylic acid. To see the best results, using a product with the maximum strength salicylic acid allowed in over-the-counter products, is where you will get the best results. HD Beauty Boutique and Skincare has created a fantastic product, HD Clean Salicylic Face & Body Wash, that is one of our top sellers. This powerful cleanser penetrates pores to remove dead skin cells and excess oil. The beautiful thing about this product, it is designed to use on your face and body, to treat blackheads wherever they are. It exfoliates while it gently cleanses, washing away dead skin buildup that causes blackheads.

Use Toner daily; after cleansing your face, which increases your skin’s luminosity. We have created a toner in our skincare lineup “The HD Reappear Resurfacing Gel Pads”, that has Glycolic Acid, Algae Firming Peptides and Botanical Extracts which minimizes the skin build-up that causes acne lesions, hydrates, calms skin inflammation, and boosts collagen production. Makes for a toner that brightens skin, clears dead skin cells, and minimizes bumps.
