Moving has lots of moving parts (no pun intended), and packing is always the king. If you have relocated from one place to another at least once in your life, you probably know by now that this task is taxing. You can DIY it, but you should not. Even if you have all the time in the world, you should not shun professional service to get it done correctly, efficiently, and safely.

However, leaving the job to full-service movers for long distance relocation is one thing; choosing the right boxes is an entirely different story. Many people buy brand-new cardboard boxes, which are available in various sizes, but specialty ones are also your option.

They Are Tailored for Certain Loads

Unlike garden-variety cardboard boxes, specialty ones are designed for specific loads. Wardrobe boxes are intended for hanging clothes. They look like a mini closet because of their height and metal rods installed at the top. They are designed as such to hold and protect expensive pieces of clothing from moisture, dirt, or dust. They ensure the clothes remain wrinkle-free during the move.

Dish barrel boxes are thicker than ordinary cardboard containers to secure breakables. Being double-walled makes them unique. They are also compatible with attachments for dividing their interior into sections to arrange antiques and pieces of chinaware more easily.

Mirror and picture boxes are unique in the sense that they are adjustable to accommodate the awkward shapes of their contents. Two of them can be merged to make room for larger frames.

Wine shippers are equipped with durable Kraft paper inserts to keep bottles in one piece throughout the relocation. Like wardrobe boxes, lamp ones are tall to house bulky items. Book boxes can carry small yet heavy items while file boxes are best at keeping documents and other personal records, including those in letter-sized folders organized.

They Can Be Acquired for Free

Specialty boxes are understandably more costly than ordinary cardboard containers, for they have thoughtful features. Fortunately, you do not need to buy them directly from the source.

You can reach out to freecycling groups to acquire specialty moving boxes in exchange for other items of value that you no longer need. You can also conduct some dumpster dives to find these containers, or check with local businesses that have a surplus of moving boxes.

While taking advantage of free moving boxes is a huge money-saver, it is not exactly advisable. Old or used boxes are usually imperfect; they come with obscure defects that damage your valuables one way or another. If you want specialty boxes, get new ones.

They Might Not Be Worth the Extra Expense

The utility of individual boxes is unquestionable, but you do not HAVE to have them. Some of them occupy a lot of space inside the truck, which can inflate the overall cost of your relocation. There are instances when they are in order, so seek expert advice to know when using them is the best decision.

Exploring specialty box options can make your moving preparations extra difficult, but it is a necessary part of the process to live through your relocation with as little stress as possible.
