2. Sea & Smoke, Del Mar
San Diego’s chef and restaurateur Matt Gordon has done it again. Opening his third restaurant in the newly renovated Flower Hill Mark, Sea & Smoke, An American Brasserie will be specializing in comfort foods that Americans crave. The decor of the restaurant is retro, with a 1950s vibe.

Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner from 7:30 a.m. to midnight, this restaurant doesn’t serve up any artificial ingredients. The drink menu embraces the seafood, meat and vegetable items on the menu. 1. Salt & Cleaver, Hillcrest
Inspired by 1860s industrial Chicago, Salt & Cleaver, a new craft sausage company in Hillcrest, is serving up local ingredients and modern meats with the age-old tradition of sausage making. Executive Chef Carlos Sanmartano explores global notes in cuisine, with 19 different flavor schemes to pair with 20 specialty beers on tap and handcrafted cocktails.

Vegetarians will find great alternatives to these meaty offerings, like “The Faceless” a mixture of quinoa, asparagus, peppers and cauliflower wrapped in a cauliflower leaf and served with citrus slaw and herb aioli. Jalapeño and green chili-stuffed rabbit sausage or duck and bacon sausage are just a few favorites sure to please meat eaters with an appetite for creative fare and local flare.
