San Diego's Best Pizzerias 2017

While New York and Chicago childishly fight over who makes the best pizza, we over here in sunny San Diego enjoy some of the best cheese and crust creations in the country. And most likely will go to the beach after, just because we can. Take a look below for some of the best pizza places San Diego has to offer.

Blue Ribbon Artisan Pizzeria in Encinitas is as casual as it is romantic, mingling Italian and American flavors. Try one of their amazing traditional wood-fired pizzas, like “My Father,” which has pepperoni, house-made sausage and red onions. They use the freshest organic ingredients to make the best quality pizza every single time.

Now, Pizzeria Luigi in Golden Hill is the perfect place to grab a slice while on a short lunch break. This on-the-go pizza joint offers an amazing deal of $2.75 per slice with toppings. Take a taste of classic pepperoni or be bold and go Hawaiian with pineapple Also try some of Luigi's classics like “Mona Lisa,” topped with pepperoni, sausage, green peppers, mushrooms, red onions and black olives. They do not accept credit cards so make sure you have plenty of cash on hand.

Carmine’s Pizza in Oceanside is a great spot for pizza. Start off with an order of deliciously soft and perfectly seasoned garlic knots, then enjoy their fantastic New York-style pizzas. Try the classic pepperoni or plain cheese, or if you’re feeling bold and inventive, try the BBQ Pulled Pork or the Ham and Swiss topped with Dijonaise, which gives the pizza that delicious gourmet sandwich taste. Finish the meal with a toasted-to-perfection crème brûlée.

Basic Urban Kitchen & Bar downtown is a great family-friendly social scene, plus it’s near Petco Park. Take a chance on this sports bar and their mashed potato and bacon pizza (don’t knock it till you try it). This pizza place is known for their unique offerings and mashups.

Bongiorno’s New York Pizzeria in Solana Beach is a great stop on a lunch run. Try their buffalo chicken pizza on a New York-style thin crust. Made with garlic chicken, wing sauce and garlic parmesan and topped with a decent amount of ranch dressing, it is mouthwatering perfection. The pizzas come by the slice and are reasonably priced.

On a diet and looking for that perfect slice of heaven? Try Zia Gourmet Pizza in Normal Heights. Try any pizza by the slice on their healthy whole wheat crust. Add fresh fruit, veggies and herbs to create that healthy nutritious meal that won’t make you want to loosen the belt buckle. And if there is still room left, Zia is a great place to indulge in dessert. Their Banana Split is the perfect combination of chocolate, banana, light cream cheese and chocolate syrup.

One of the most popular pizza joints in San Diego is the Bronx Pizza restaurant in Hillcrest. Bronx Pizza is known for their awesome Bronx, New York theme with photos of famous athletes and boxers hanging on the walls. Pepperoni pizza fanatics should watch out; the Bronx’s slices put other places to shame. It will be dieter's worst nightmare with their two types of sausages combined with pepperoni on a traditional New York-style thin crust.
