The stunning panoramic city views from the penthouse suite of Penny Wing and Victor Nacif was the setting for City Ballet of San Diego's spring event, “The View From Here” on June 11th.
As guests sipped wine and enjoyed delicious hors d'oeuvres and desserts, Artistic Director, Steven Wistrich shared the remarkable history of the company and the view for the future. This year will mark the company's 25th Silver Anniversary Season. To celebrate, the company will bring back some of ballet lover's favorites and some new works. The season begins November 3-5, 2017 and includes: The Firebird and Serenade (pictured above), The Nutcracker (December 8-24, 2017), Giselle (March 9-11, 2018) and a World Premiere of Carmina Burana (May 11-13, 2018), performed at the company’s home theater – the historic Spreckels Theatre – and accompanied by The City Ballet Orchestra with John Nettles conducting.
The critically acclaimed company, under the direction of Steven and Elizabeth Wistrich, both former Boston Ballet and Stuttgart Ballet dancers, is best known for its commitment to presenting ballets by the legendary George Balanchine. Eve Lawson, repetiteur from The George Balanchine Trust in New York, spoke about the strength and artistic ability of the company's dancers. She shared the joy she receives while working with the City Ballet dancers as they continue to develop the ballets granted them under the Trust.
The 2017-18 season will explode with a fabulous Silver Jubilee Gala to be held at the Hotel del Coronado on October 7th,, co-chaired by Rita Steel and Lauren Steel. Rita shared the excitement of the up-coming gala and encouraged guests to participate. The Hotel del Coronado is also a Season Sponsor of the ballet company.
Guests mingled with City Ballet dancers and the Board of Directors. All the guests received swag which included a wonderful book written about City Ballet and includes gorgeous photos of the dancers and ballets performed by the company.
