Great brows are essential to an awesome makeup look that will have people telling you, “GOALS!” But why are brows important? Well, as it turns out, they frame your face so their purpose is to complement your features and balance everything out.
The first step in achieving brow-greatness is to shape your brows to fit your face. The best way to do this is with a brow pencil (or a pencil eyeliner; this is just to shape, not to wear out!). Look straight ahead in the mirror as you apply the pencil so you don't end up with crooked brows. Yes, it is true - eyebrows are sisters, not twins, but they should still look somewhat uniform.
Use the end of your pencil to measure where you are marking. For your inner brow, hold the end of your pencil so that it lines up with your outer edge of your nose (for further apart brows) or the respective side of your septum (for closer brows). For the arch, line up the outer edge of your nose with the outer pupil. For the outer brow, line your nose with the outer edge of your eye and wherever it lands on your brow should determine the end. Fill them in accordingly, then tweeze and trim the parts of your brows that you didn’t fill in.
Now for the fun part of eyebrows: following the many trends that have made their way onto runways and fashion-forward celebrities.
One trend we recommend? Ditch the thin brows and go full and natural. That’s right! Let loose and let your brows grow wild. Of course, you will still want to clean them up every now and then. Mostly focus on cleaning up the middle of your brows (unfortunately, unibrows are still not in) and whatever stray hairs and stragglers that are growing outside of your natural shape.
Feathered brows are also a huge trend for 2016. Feathered, in this case, means you are going to brush up the hairs with a brow gel so that they stick out above the shape. This works best with trimmed brow hairs, unless you think that looking like a Sesame Street character is your thing.
Dramatic and bold brows that are as sharp as a knife will kill it in the eyebrow game this year. Achieving this look is simple: it is all about definition. Feel free to go heavy on the brow product for this one, and always make sure to clean up your brows with concealer. Doing this will also add a natural-looking highlight to your brows, which adds to the dramatic effect!
Tweezers are essential to anyone who wants to clean up their eyebrows. If you are someone who has been keeping up with their brows for a while, then you know the struggle of finding the perfect pair of tweezers. Look no further, Tweezerman makes the absolute best pair of trusty hair pluckers. Available at Ulta for $23.
Trimming your brow hairs is not exactly necessary for everyone, but if you find that you have long brow hairs, these tiny scissors will be your new best friend. Tweezerman also sells a trimming kit for those looking to give their brows a little snip-snip. Available at Ulta for $19.
Anastasia Beverly Hills is a popular makeup brand, known mostly for their contouring kits and brow products.
For those who have naturally thick and full brows, use Anastasia's Brow Wiz pencil to step up your brows to the next level. This pencil also comes with a spooly on the end to brush through and blend the product throughout your brows. Available at Sephora for $21.
Now you may not feel like you need to add anything to your brows because they are already bold on their own, but if you want to achieve a sleek look, try out Anastasia’s Tinted Brow Gel. Available at Sephora for $22.
But for those natural eyebrows that are barely there, Anastasia’s Dipbrow Pomade is a waterproof formula that will fill in your brows beautifully. Just make sure you fill in with short strokes, instead of long ones. Available at Sephora for $18.
