Running for a Reason: The 38th Carlsbad Marathon

Tri–City Medical Center Carlsbad Marathon lets people run for a good cause!

Carlsbad Marathon

Want to go for a Sunday run? Well, you can join 10,000 other fitness enthusiasts at the Tri–City Medical Center Carlsbad Marathon. This January 17th, the race will start and end at the Shoppes at Carlsbad as runners dash along the coast, down past Palomar Airport before making a u–turn to follow the coast back to cross the finish line. Set your alarm: the start of the marathon is scheduled for 6:15 am.

All right, so Mom is a bit of a fitness nut and runs these kinds of races all the time, but what about Dad and the kids? Not to worry, the organizers have you covered! In addition to the full marathon, there is also a half marathon on the same day, which covers much of the same track as the full marathon. But this event isn’t just for runners out there. For the little ones, there is a Kids Marathon Mile at Legoland. This fun run through the park is open to children between the ages of 3 and 12. The race starts at 8 am and concludes at 10 am. All of the children participants can enter Legoland for free, while their parents will get half off the normal admission price.

And if doing good for your body isn’t enough incentive to run these races, how about doing good for the community? Simply by filling out a form, participants can have money donated to any one of the many official charity sponsors of the race at one of four different levels, depending on how much any participant is willing to contribute. From the Lupus Foundation of Southern California and the San Diego Fire and Rescue Foundation, to Labrador and Friends Dog Rescue and Inspire Kidz, there is certainly no lack of worthy charities among this year’s sponsors. For more information about how to donate, see Carlsbad Marathon.

The Carlsbad Marathon will be a great opportunity for families to enjoy an active experience together, for hardcore runners to challenge their best times in perhaps the most beautiful race on the West Coast, and for the community to do some real good and support some of the most deserving charities in Southern California. So get out there on the 17th and show your support as you run with thousands of other like–minded people for a great cause!
