Pismo Beach, a must-see coastal town located in the perfect spot, between Northern and Southern California along Pacific Coast and the 101 Highway. Enjoy the idyllic weather all year round. Inviting summer temperatures and over 300 days of sunshine a year allow you to jump into beach activities year round–from strolling, hiking, surfing, and kayaking to horseback riding, and fishing. There are endless possibilities for the perfect getaway or dream vacation at Pismo Beach. Here's a few activities to include in your Pismo vacation:
Catching Butterflies from October to February
Home to over 25,000 butterflies, Pismo is where you can introduce your kids to their first black and orange example of beauty with wings. These monarch butterflies have found their favorite spot to hang out during winter–the eucalyptus and pine trees in the grove of Pismo. To view the flocks of monarchs, visit Pismo somewhere between October and February and learn more about this amazing variety of butterflies.
Take the “Pismo pace” and slowly enjoy walking on the Pier while this classic beach town serves you views of the beautiful soft sand beach and pristine ocean beauty surrounded by mountains, cliffs, and glorious sunsets. No matter how long your stay at Pismo, make sure to include this activity at the start or finish of your day. Pismo’s pier is not only quite long with its 1,200 foot length, but has such a unique shape you only wish someone could take a picture of you from the air to catch how special it is.
A favorite activity of many, hiking, is highly recommended in the 900 acres of protected land at Pismo Preserve which opened to the public for the first time last fall. With ten miles of trails for bike rides, runs, horse rides, and docent-led hikes there's plenty of activities offered for every kind of outdoor enthusiast.
Visit Dinosaur Caves Park
At the end of Shell Beach there is a spacious park, Dinosaur Caves Park, welcoming everyone for walks, picnics, jogging, and playing. This park is a favorite place for those who want to enjoy Pismo’s stunning views, open grass areas, and plenty of play toys with dinosaur and other animal themes.
Oceano Sand Dunes
Pismo has an amazing sand dune complex that is set out like a playground for off road vehicle adventures. The dunes allow you to enjoy the landscape with vehicles like quads, ATV, off-road vehicles, shuttles, or dune buggies. The Oceano Dunes are spread on more than five miles of coastal sand waves. When you head to Pismo, plan this activity ahead—reservations are encouraged.
California-Style Dining at Pismo
