Not only do they deliver quality grade products for the home, they work with products that do not cause harm to the environment.

An interview with one of Daltile’s Showroom Designers, Molly McLane, gave FINE magazine an inside look into this year's floor and backsplash trends, as well as all the fun and exciting aspects of Daltile’s world-class showrooms! McLane has been working with Daltile for 10 years, as a designer and consultant. She explains, “Daltile’s bread and butter is the commercial industry. But, our showrooms allow us to provide our product as an option for small businesses, homeowners, and non-commercial uses.” In the showrooms, customers work with designers and consultants to find the perfect products for their home. McLane suggests making a consultation ahead of time for larger projects so that designers can walk you through the entire process. The room also has a giant indoor slab yard, where customers can see all of the countertop and tile options in one place. “We have something for any kind of design or atmosphere,” McLane adds, “We want to help clients bring their ideas to life.” Daltile offers many different options in materials, but their most popular tend to be porcelain, ceramic, glass, and natural stone. Although their showrooms are styled for contemporary modern, they do offer traditional options as well.

What’s in Style This Season?

According to McLane, the trends this season are BIG & SIMPLE with a mid-century modern flair. Floor trends are currently focused on large format, “I’m talking big like 24 x 48 inches," says this consultant, "We’re also seeing a movement towards a wood-like tile, in large planks. Everything is moving towards large formats, floor-wise.” McLane adds that porcelain is a dominant material for flooring this year.

McLane believes all the trends point towards simplicity - and the backsplashes are no exception. She says, "A few years ago, elaborate mosaic-like pieces were popular. Now we are seeing a use of one material for the whole surface with larger pieces such as 4 x 8 or even 6 x 24!”. McLane also shares the popularity of the rectangular and hexagonal shapes this year; “It’s simple in shape and style, yet it is interesting because of the way the pieces fit so well together". Glass and ceramic are popular tiles for backsplashes this year.

Daltile’s showroom not only allows customers to see designs up close, it also hosts home design industry events, such as the National Kitchen and Bathroom Associates and the National Interior Design Association. They also hold an annual event, in October, where 300 designers come to discuss the color forecast for 2018's designs. Daltile uses this information to choose the latest colors for their products.
