San Diego Chargers & Union Bank Present $15,000 to Non-Profit Casa de Amparo

San Diego Chargers player Corey Liuget helped present a check to the non-profit Casa de Amparo at a donation event worth $15,000. This is a partnership between the San Diego Chargers and Union Bank designed to support both responsible banking and the San Diego Community. The fundraising program is called Game Changers, and they raised more than $15,000 for Casa de Amparo over the 2015-2016 Chargers' season. The program started on April 5th with a donation presentation at Chargers Park. Chargers Defensive End Corey Liuget, Director of Public Affairs and Corporate/Community Relations Kimberley Layton, and Regional President Robbin Narike Preciado presented the check to Casa de Amparo.

Union Bank has sponsored the San Diego Chargers for more than ten years and in the last three, they have raised over $45,000 for nonprofits. Preciado shared some thoughts about the program and the work that they do. "This is what teamwork is about: working together with the San Diego Chargers and the Chargers’ generous fan base to help a great organization in our community."

Charger games are annually the highest-rated television programming in San Diego, playing their home games at Qualcomm Stadium. The owners, the Spanos family, are nationally renowned as one of San Diego’s and the National Football League's most philanthropic families, and is focused on bringing in a new San Diego Chargers stadium to downtown San Diego.

The fundraising program invited fans at the Chargers home games to gather their loose change and donate at the Game Changers Mobile. As part of the program, attendees had a chance to win a variety of prizes, such as towels and football gear signed by the players, as well as an opportunity to win upgraded seats to watch the Chargers play. Every dollar donated supports the Casa de Amparo’s initiatives of preventing child abuse and mistreatment. Casa de Amparo serves more than 1,000 kids and young adults, and 1,000 families by offering services that promote healing, growth, and healthy relationships. The nonprofit was started in 1978 and serves San Diego County with locations in Oceanside and San Marcos. The six integrated programs include residential services, counseling, family visitation, young parent network, new directions, and the Hayward Child Development Center. Through these programs Casa de Amparo’s vision is to create a community where child abuse and neglect are not tolerated. They want to see child abuse awareness and prevention as priorities within San Diego.

Casa de Amparo is the San Diego Chargers Courage House, part of a national network of NFL teams and charities that are dedicated to the prevention of child abuse. Donations will contribute to stopping the cycles of abuse some families have seen. The Chargers have been a huge part of making that happen. "Our tremendous fans generously supported casa de Amparo, resulting in the highest donation total for the Game Changers program to date. We thank our long-time sponsor Union Bank as the Game Changers program wouldn’t be possible without our ongoing collaboration to support San Diego," said Chargers President-Business Operations A.G. Spanos. The total donations were matched by Union Bank and the San Diego Chargers, up to $5,000 each.
