Make Your Skin Shine!

OZ Naturals Facial Serum

The beauty world can feel as fast changing as today’s technology; no sooner have we invested in the latest ‘it does everything and more’ cream than another better version comes out. Thanks to scientists, there are new miraculous skincare ingredients available to us almost every month.

Companies that make skincare products often market new items with phrases like ‘a revolutionary complex’ and other such claims. Whilst most of the ingredients the products contain are effective at treating the signs of aging, the truth of the matter is that there really isn’t one that is better than the others. Our skin needs several ingredients to look its best, in the same way our bodies couldn't survive on a diet of apples. Here are five anti-aging ingredients which should feature in any skincare routine:

Retinol

Retinol is a form of vitamin A which is highly effective at reversing the signs of aging.  However, it is also an ingredient that works slowly, so don’t expect amazing results straight away.  Retinol works by boosting collagen production, which firms the skin and increases cell turnover, which then reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Be aware that retinol can irritate skin, especially skin prone to sensitivity, so it is recommended that you start with a low dose every other day to begin with and increase the amount when your skin has got used to it.  Other forms of vitamin A that may be less irritating for your skin are retinol palmitate and retinaldehyde.

Alpha Hydroxy Acids

We are often told that constant exfoliation is necessary to keep our skin looking its best, and there are numerous products that contain small beads or grains which remove the dead cells from the skin, however these grains can also lead to skin irritation.  There is actually a much gentler option in the form of alpha hydroxyl acids (AHAs), such as glycolic acid and lactic acid.  They work by dissolving the glue that holds the dead cells together, which then reveals the brighter, smoother skin underneath.

AHA exfoliants can also stimulate collagen production, making them a great product to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.  The only thing to consider is if you have acne or oily skin; if this is the case, you should opt for an exfoliant that contains salicylic acid. Salicylic acid can penetrate the pores therefore treating and preventing breakouts.

Antioxidants

Antioxidants such as vitamins C and E, coenzyme q-10 and ferulic acid help your skin to fight against free radicals. They can also work to stimulate collagen production and reduce discolorations which help to keep the signs of aging at bay. Serums containing antioxidants, like those from top skincare brand OZ Naturals, will provide a wide range of restorative benefits from increasing elasticity to giving the skin a more supple appearance.  Products that contain a combination of antioxidants are usually the ones that work the most effectively.

Using products which contain these ingredients could be your answer to youthful, radiant skin, and isn’t that exactly what we all want at the end of the day?
