As I was dashing around the county from vineyard to winery, several people told me I had to get over and see Kim and George Murray, owners of Beach House Winery in Oceanside. I’m glad I did.
Background
Kim and George met at work 25 years ago. They became good friends that shared common interests like surfing, skiing, and later—among friends—they discovered the fine art of making wine. The romantic spirit of winemaking was contagious and the couple’s love affair blossomed. As the saying goes—the rest is history.
The couple began producing wine in 1998 as a hobby they loved sharing with friends. George branded his wine "River Run", while Kim preferred, "Sleeping Indian". In 2005, at their nondescript beach-house in Oceanside, they decided on Beach House Winery. It didn’t take long for their friend’s and the local community to approve of their hobby, the result of which was the commercial launch of Beach House Winery in 2010.

This place is the only coastal vineyard/winery in San Diego County and sits atop one of the highest hills in Oceanside. Offering 360-degree views that stretch from Palomar Mt. to San Clemente Island, northward to DeLuz and Fallbrook, down to La Jolla.
George and Kim have 2,000 vines growing on their 4-acre property. They also manage several more. The couple also bring grapes in from other sources including San Diego County. This allows them to produce 11 varietals of their award winning wine, with plenty remaining to share with friends.
The 2013 harvest marked a banner year for Kim and George, using the grapes from their vines to produce the first ever BHW estate wine. Its aging in the barrel as I write. I suggest you wind your way up the hill and see the best-kept secret in Oceanside for yourself.
