Farmer's Fix Offers Easy, Nutritious Salad Subscriptions

In an age where job competition is fierce, putting extra time in at work is imperative to succeed. Years spent at desk jobs and traveling for work meant that the founders of Farmer’s Fix, 30-somethings Tawei David Lin and Doug Murphy, never had the time or energy to eat healthy. Instead, they resorted to last-minute, unhealthy meals. Tired of putting their health on the back burner, in January 2016 Tawei David Lin and Doug Murphy created Farmer’s Fix to make healthy eating simple. This salad delivery service offers an easy subscription model for fresh salads delivered straight to your door. Users set up an online account, select their desired salads for the week and order. Salads are delivered Sundays and Mondays for the week, a minimum of five salads per order.

While that may sound like a large order for a perishable good, Farmer’s Fix salads stay uniquely fresh for five days because of their locally sourced ingredients and strong focus on eliminating unnecessary moisture from the produce. Says co-founder David Murphy, "Farmer’s Fix sources from Specialty Produce, a family-owned business that works directly with local farmers. We offer the same produce that can be found in many premier San Diego restaurants." And with 14 different salads to choose from, five salads a week may not be enough. With gluten-free and vegan options readily available— and the recent addition of tender grilled chicken—the company produces a wholesome, healthy alternative to a fast food lunch. Not only committed to flavor and health, Farmer’s Fix is also environmentally friendly; the salads come in non-plastic, 24oz Ingeo bowls that easily compost into soil.

Farmer’s Fix works hard to create new recipes for their users. Explains Murphy, "Our goal is to develop taste profiles that are foodie quality and unique to our brand. Some of our boldest combinations cannot be found elsewhere because we strive to be the category leader when it comes to salads by combining luscious greens, organic grains and dressings made without any artificial preservatives." The company offers a wide variety of salads filled to the brim with fresh vegetables, grains and nuts to create a filling and flavorful meal, from their Autumn Baby Spinach—which boasts fresh bell peppers, apples and cranberries—to the unique Poppyseed Pear salad—complete with feta cheese, pears and pecans. Creating delicious and nutritious salads is Farmer’s Fix’s goal… with one notable exception. "You’ll notice that we don’t have a Caesar salad," points out Murphy. "Everybody can do a Caesar salad, and that’s not what we are. Our recipes are designed to be unique and delicious."

So where does Farmer’s Fix go from here? According to co-founder Murphy, the company intends to continue growing. "We’ve got big plans for 2017! Since launching in January 2016, we’ve nearly doubled our product offerings. As we kick off our second year, we will continue to roll out new mouthwatering options, including a hard-boiled egg and tofu add-on option." Maybe their willingness to adapt and change, more than anything, is what makes Farmer’s Fix stand out as a company. Murphy and Lin are open to feedback and excited to implement changes based on the needs of their subscribers. Take, for example, the recent addition of chicken to the menu. According to Murphy, meat-based protein was never part of the original vision. "Farmer’s Fix started as an all-vegetarian menu because we wanted to challenge the notion that meat is a prerequisite to a delicious, healthy and fulfilling meal," Murphy explains. "However, many of our subscribers [had] requested chicken as an add-on, so after countless trials perfecting the recipe, we are proud to offer it [now]."
