New swimwear line, SkynCandySwim promises to deliver quality swimwear without burning a hole in your pocket. With three collections launching on August 8th, it's sure to have the perfect swimsuit for you. FINE Magazine spoke to the founder of SkynCandySwim and FINE contributing writer Nicole Vargas about the launch of her swimwear line. 

What inspired you to start your own swimwear line? 
After realizing I owned about 50 bikinis, I considered how cool it would be to design my own. That was nearly four years ago. At the time, it was only a “silly” and “impossible” idea. Little did I know that the seed I had planted in my brain to be a swimwear designer would grow exponentially every day. I began to research what it took to create your own line... After years of working towards a line, I felt confident enough to launch––here we are!

What is starting your own business like? 
So many words: terrifying, gratifying, liberating, stressful, exhilarating... I had no clue what I was doing when I began. What’s even funnier is that I studied and dropped out of business school after a year in the program, thinking “I never want to be business woman, so why waste my time?” That was when I was only 18; now I can’t imagine being anything but [a business owner].

I think the difference for me is that I own a business doing what I love: designing beautiful swimwear. Owning a business is one of the most terrifying career paths you can take on due to the uncertainty of it all. You’re putting yourself out there for the world to see and critique; if something goes wrong, it’s all on you. The liberation that comes along with owning a company that you’re genuinely passionate about is what makes it so sweet.

How did you come up with the name for your swimwear line? 
There’s nothing better than diving spoon first into a decadent dessert and marveling in its creamy sugary goodness! I wanted something unique and reflective of my designs. I wanted to create a line that emulates that feeling of delicious euphoria, and turns it into the perfect swimsuit. Not to mention the fact that I have a demanding sweet-tooth, making the name genuine!

What kind of designs are in your line? 
My first collection is made up of 3 mini collections––the dessert collection, the ultra-lux candy collection, and the luxury sugar collection. The pieces are all made in America with luxurious fabrics. I want every girl to [be able to] own a luxury swimsuit, so they don’t come with a luxury-sized price tag. Some pieces are drenched in authentic Swarovski crystals, others in satin gold applique, and some are made of captivating metallic fabric.

What is your design process like? 
I like to imagine all of the qualities that make up the perfect swimsuit and ensure those qualities are present in my designs. Sometimes a design will begin with a new idea for an open back or plunging neckline, and it will evolve from there. I like to allow my designs time to develop and age in my mind like a fine wine. Once I’ve got a design down on paper and I’m fully content with it, I’ll work through it with my team to form it in a way that is practical and workable.
