San Diego is home to a plethora of museums with diverse exhibitions that enlighten the mind and senses of anyone who visits them. The region’s oldest and largest art museum is the San Diego Museum of Art. Located in the heart of Balboa Park, visitors can gaze at the breathtaking master collection of Spanish and Italian works. Each painting in the San Diego Museum of Art aims to provide an idealistic view of the time period in which the works were created. Visitors can revel in the culture that every painting represents.

Visitors can then hop to the San Diego Natural History Museum, which is also located in Balboa Park. Walk through the educational current exhibitions. Learn about the unique habitants of southern California through an incredible immersive environment that includes hands-on activities, live animals, and innovative media. Then, head to the raw Skulls exhibition, where you will see nearly 200 skulls of animals from all over the world from the NAT’s research collections. From the tiny fossils to the grand - which include mammals, birds, reptiles, and amphibians - the San Diego Natural History Museum is an eye-popping sight. Travel back in time to the Fossil Mystery exhibition, where you can discover the rich fossil history of dinosaurs and mastodons from southern California and Baja California. The museum also features a state-of-the-art theater with a 56' screen and a Dolby Digital 3D projector. Dazzling films currently being shown include Wales 3D, Ocean Oasis 3D and Tiny Giants 3D.
