From Model to Designer
Veteran Model Coco Rocha Graduates from Modeling to Designing With her Debut Athleisure Line
When one thinks of models–of–the–moment, one most likely thinks of the Kendall + Kylie Jenner and Gigi + Bella Hadid squad. But, for the sartorically well–versed, Coco Rocha is perched at the top of the fashion elite's consciousness. Rocha may not have the same pop–culture reference power of said pack; however, she has graced more international magazine covers (Vogue and Bazaar, among others) and headed more advertising campaigns (YSL, Chanel and D&G, to name just a few) than the Jenners and Hadids combined.
And now the Canadian national treasure is expanding her empire. With over a decade of modeling under her belt, Coco Rocha decided to apply her personal experiences from runway shows, fittings and photoshoots toward building her own brand, Co + Co by Coco Rocha. The model’s inaugural collection is a sporty–contemporary line that aims to bridge the gap between luxury and affordability, while fitting right in the market with the current fixation on the athleisure trend. Co + Co is inspired by architecture, resulting in clean silhouettes and structured pieces, such as a glitch art–printed sweatshirt made from scuba material, a pencil skirt with heat–sealed seam details and a sheer, oversized zip–up cardigan that you can layer over a color–blocked sports bra. Think athleisure and streetwear and you’ve got Co + Co by Coco Rocha.
The demographic for Co + Co by Coco Rocha? The fashion–loving woman who follows all the runway shows online but, when it’s time to shop, has trouble finding fashion–forward, clean–lined pieces at a reasonable price point. Minimalism is key; confidence is necessary. Rocha noted the sentiment that, when wearing a unique Co + Co by Coco Rocha piece, one has to be confident, as not everyone may know how to digest the designs at first; but one will definitely be noticed. Upon viewing the line’s lookbook, it’s evident that the clothes mirror a tech–and–fashion focused lifestyle; each piece filters beautifully on Instagram, no doubt warranting triple digit "likes" upon posting.
CocoRocha.com relaunched on Wednesday, January 27th as a brand new lifestyle network, as opposed to a previously blog–heavy site. In March, Co + Co designs will be available on Rocha’s website, as well as at select retailers and department stores.
