Located in the charming town of La Jolla, California, Sugar & Scribe Bakery has become a local favorite among residents and visitors alike. Known for its delectable pastries and authentic Irish specialties, the bakery has built a loyal following since its opening in 2013.
Owner Maeve Rochford, a Dublin native, brings a rich heritage of traditional Irish baking to the table. Growing up in Ireland, Rochford learned the art of baking from her grandmother and mother, who passed down cherished family recipes. "Baking was always a part of my life," says Rochford. "It was a way to connect with my family and our heritage."
Focus
With a focus on quality ingredients and scratch-made recipes, Sugar & Scribe Bakery offers a wide selection of baked goods that change with the seasons. From pumpkin spice scones in the fall to lemon tarts in the summer, the menu is always evolving. "We like to keep things fresh and exciting," says Rochford. "It's important to us to use the best ingredients and create flavors that people will love."
One of the bakery's most popular items is the Guinness Porter Cake, a rich and flavorful cake made with the famous Irish stout. "It's a classic recipe that has been passed down through generations," says Rochford. "It's a staple in my family and it's something that we're proud to share with our customers."
In addition to sweets, Sugar & Scribe Bakery also offers a variety of savory items, such as quiches, sandwiches, and soups. "We want to provide something for everyone," says Rochford. "Whether you're in the mood for something sweet or savory, we have you covered."
Despite its success, Sugar & Scribe Bakery remains committed to its roots as a small, family-owned business. Rochford takes pride in her staff and works hard to create a positive and supportive work environment. "We're like a family here," she says. "We all work together to create something special."
In the spirit of community, Sugar & Scribe Bakery also gives back to local charities and organizations. Through its "Crumbs for a Cause" program, the bakery donates a portion of its sales to a different charity each month. "We want to make a difference in our community," says Rochford. "It's important to us to give back and support those in need."
As for the future, Rochford has big plans for Sugar & Scribe Bakery. She hopes to expand the business to new locations and continue to share her love of baking with others. "We're always looking for new ways to grow and improve," she says. "But no matter what, we'll always stay true to our roots and our commitment to quality and community."
