If you’re a fan of interior design, you probably come across the same old recycled advice when it comes to decorating your bedroom --clean linens, neutral colors, rugs beside the bed, right-sized furniture, etc..While all of this is great, you may be looking for something outside the box. Don’t worry because in this article, we’ll share with you some bedroom decor ideas that you won’t find in HGTV or Apartment Therapy.

1. Bookshelf headboard

Instead of the usual headboard, why not have a bookshelf? It’s a genius way to make a statement and will make your bedroom more functional. Whenever you want something to read before bed, you just have to check behind your bed and pick from your favorites.

2. Add a comfy sofa

The sofa is often associated with the living room. However, there’s no rule to having one in your bedroom as well. A sofa can change your room’s style and make your bedroom an extra relaxing haven especially if you’re sharing it with a significant other. It can act as a separate relaxation nook where you can listen to music, read books, cuddle with your pets, or take naps.

3. Place the bed on the floor

Say goodbye to your bed frame, and say hello to the floor. There’s just something grounding about being close to the floor. It makes the space feel more relaxed and inviting. If you’re not completely comfortable having the mattress on the floor, you can install a raised floor or frame it with teak wood underneath so there is some form of separation.

4. Fill it with greenery

Take the outdoors inside your bedroom with a couple of plant pots. Not only do they make you feel calm, they also improve the air quality in the room. It’s also nice to have a view of greenery before going to bed and when waking up.

5. Paint an accent wall

Your bedroom may be a place of relaxation but that doesn’t mean it has to be boring. You can break the rules by painting an accent wall. Don’t be afraid to go bold on this one. Just be sure to try it out on a patch of wall first before going all in.

6. Add pops of color

If you’re not ready to commit to the bold wall paint just yet, you can opt for brightly colored furniture and draperies instead. This is a great way to add a pop of color to an otherwise boring bedroom.

7. Ditch the curtains

If your room doesn’t get enough natural light, try skipping curtains. This invites more light to come in and allows you to enjoy the view of the outdoors more.

8. Use a folding divider

Folding dividers aren’t as popular as they used to be. But you can bring the trend back into your bedroom by using it as a space divider. It’s a great way to break up the space in the room and will allow you some privacy when you need to change.

9. Try statement bed frames

Bed frames give your bed a feeling closeness minus the stuffiness. You can experiment with this one from using bright colors to ornate finishes. Skip the draperies as well so you don’t feel as closed in.

10. Install statement lighting

Instead of going for the standard bedside lamp, why not opt for statement lighting? This adds more character to your bedroom space making it a place you’ll always want to be in. Look for statement lighting that fits your style whether it’s a baroque chandelier or rattan hanging lamps.

11. Put up bold wall art

Another way to express your personality is through a unique wall art. Find one that you really love and print it out in the biggest size that your wall can accommodate. It already works as a statement piece itself where you can base the rest of your decor on.
