6 Simple Ways to Update Your Home

Doing a full renovation of even one room can be completely out of reach for most people’s lifestyles and budgets, but we all want an attractive and modern change of pace in our everyday lives. Fortunately, you don’t have to break your budget or put a cramp in your day to day life to update your home in one of these simple ways.

Throw Pillows

Something as simple as buying new throw pillows for your couch can instantly update your room. Your guests will wonder what changed and yet find themselves thinking that the room looks refreshed, and the multitude of styles and colors means that you are almost sure to find throw pillows that match with your existing decor. In addition, throw pillows are much less expensive than most other updates that you could make to your decor and can contribute to your comfort if you choose well-stuffed ones.

Rugs

If you feel ready for a slightly larger financial commitment, consider changing the whole character of your room by getting a new rug. A rug can serve as a focal point of interest, tying the whole room together by bringing in different textural and color elements from your other furniture and decor. While a good rug will be a bit more expensive, it is still comparatively budget-friendly when contrasted with other room-changing items such as a new piece of furniture.

Curtains and Blinds

Another easy way to change the whole character of a room is to replace your old, tired window coverings with new curtains or blinds. If you currently have heavy curtains, getting a lighter weight or color of fabric can lighten up the entire room both literally and figuratively. If your blinds are old and grubby looking, replacing them with either new, clean plastic or with imitation wood blinds can make the room look cleaner and more upscale. Replacing curtains in conjunction with buying a new rug, in particular, can give you the opportunity to bring in an entirely new color scheme while only buying a few key pieces.

Going Green

Adding living, growing things to your interior is not only a good decorating tip, but keeping indoor plants is a hobby that can grow over time. In addition, indoor plants can clean the air inside your home and have been proven to improve happiness and mental wellbeing. There are a huge variety of plants you can choose, from the relatively small and simple succulents that have become popular in recent years to more complex and involved species of plant life. You can even use your new hobby to augment your home cooking, since many herbs such as mint and sage are easily able to be grown right in your kitchen.

Paint

If you want a change in your room even more dramatic than new curtains, you could consider putting on a few new layers of paint. Painting a room may sound like too large a task to be considered simple, but you don’t have to go all in to use paint to liven up your home. Creating an accent wall in your living room or a new color of cabinets in your kitchen, for example, can change the entire character of the room and take less time, effort, and money than painting an entire room.

Home renovation can seem like an overwhelming, stressful, time-consuming, and financially unfeasible process, but it doesn’t have to be. By using these simple ways to update your home, you can have some of the advantages of redesigning a room in your home without the financial burden or the stress of completely renovating your space.
