How to Choose an Outdoor Pizza Oven

When doing a remodel of your backyard, one thing you should not forget to factor in is your pizza oven. Everyone loves pizza and the most cost-effective of eating it is to make it at home. Why not make it extra delicious with your own wood fired ovens or outdoor pizza ovens? While the idea of having a homemade pizza is enough to make you drool, you must acknowledge that it is not an easy feat to achieve. There are tons of factors that you have to consider. Some of them are:

Select the Appropriate Oven Size

One thing that you have to factor in is the size of your pizza. Are you planning to create one huge pizza that everyone in the family can share? Or do you want to have pizza parties at your house? If you are planning to cook pizza for your family, a small oven will work. However, if you are planning to sell it or share with large groups, deck ovens are a great option because you can prepare several pizzas at the same time, saving you money and effort.

Choose the Right Materials

If you are planning to build your oven, you have to be careful in choosing the appropriate materials. The most common option that you can go for is stainless steel. It is perfect for making pizza as it can retain the heat well. Plus, it also offers you good value for money since it can last for years. If you are considering a sleek design in your backyard patio, a stainless steel grill pizza oven can give you just that.

Suppose a stainless steel oven does not blend into the overall aesthetic of your backyard. In that case, you have other options that you can consider, such as refractory cement ovens to imbibe the Italian craftsmanship in your yard. If, however, you plan to have a more traditional looking oven, using ceramic flooring is also a great choice. Aside from being able to withstand high heat, it also spreads it evenly and gives the pizza that perfect brick oven flavor.

Use Proper Insulation

Don’t forget to include insulation when planning a backyard pizza oven, as it is critical in achieving properly cooked pizza. One of the most commonly used insulation materials is rock-spun wool because it possesses excellent heat retention and water repellency, so you don’t have to worry about mold and mildew invading your oven. Ceramic fiber insulation is also a great choice because it is corrosion resistant and offers stabilized temperature.

Factor in High Heat Conductivity

When hosting a party, you don’t want to serve a cold pizza, and you wouldn’t want them to wait too long to enjoy a slice either. When building your outdoor pizza oven, you should factor in high heat conductivity. Make sure that you can have an oven that can quickly get hot, especially when you want to reheat that pizza you prepared last night.

Gas-Fueled or Wood-Fired?

What do you prefer when eating pizza? Do you want something that you can prepare and eat quickly and easily? If yes, a gas-fueled oven is best for you since you don’t have to wait too long for the fire to heat up, and you don’t have to maintain it. Do you want to have that authentic process of pizza making? Then a wood-fired pizza oven may be the best choice. Better yet, you can have the best of both worlds by having a hybrid oven that allows you to enjoy the wood-fired flavor without all the hassle.

Having a backyard pizza oven is a luxury as it is, but it is also a great way of contributing to a greener environment. So you see, enjoying both pizza and sustainability is easy as a pie.
