Going to the great outdoors to enjoy the sun on your skin, a refreshing breeze and the beauty of nature is fun and exciting. But, this trip can also be a nightmare if you forget to pack some essentials. Soon, you realize that for these trips, it all comes down to what you packed or didn’t pack for the camping. The items you have in your backpack can mean a huge difference for your restful vacation.
Whether you are a seasoned survivalist or an experienced camper, there are some items that you do not want to leave home without when you go camping. While packing is the non-fun part of the entire trip, you need to figure out what you will eat, wear, and the camping gear you will need. When you have some tips to go by, the packing will not be stressful, and you will not end up carrying things you will not use.
The Basics
Generally, there are three big categories to think about when you are packing- clothes, food, and shelter. If you are an experienced camper, most likely, your shelter is already taken care of, and you already have a special collection of camping clothes. Still, here are some tips you may want to use.
Keep It Simple
Camping should be all about getting back to the basics. Only pack what you will absolutely need; you can forget the other stuff. Keep in mind that even if you do forget to carry some items, it will only be for a day or two. You will be fine.
Have a List
It is always helpful if you have a list of all the items you need to pack. This way, you will have everything you need to have in your personalized backpacks. If you are going with your family, customize the list also to fit the needs of your family. You need to make sure that you start packing at least two weeks before the trip. Check the list for the things you have already packed, so you have a clear picture of what still needs to go into the backpacks.
Be Ruthless
Remember that you may have to hike a long distance before you can find the perfect spot to set up your tent. Overpacking will slow you down and make it impossible for you to get where you need on time. As long as you keep dry, you can wear the same hoodie the entire trip for warmth.
Check the Weather
The most frustrating thing that can happen on your trip is to have packed for warm weather only to have it rain heavily. This is why it is advised that you do a 10-day weather forecast so that you are prepared with appropriate weather clothing.
Never Overplan Your Meals
No one expects there to be freshly baked bread on a camping trip, so keep the meals simple. You can even prepare some of them at home and find ways to store them. Have a separate backpack or cooler that will carry enough food for everyone.

Carry foods that one can eat with their hands. This means that when you think about camping food, you think hotdogs, hamburgers, and sausages. They are cheaper and will not require you to buy many plates
Make camping more fun by going fishing! Whenever you can, go fishing with your team. It is a great way to pass the time and of course, get fresh food for dinner and lunch.
Dehydrate and prepare your food before you go camping. This way, your food will stay fresh for longer and will not need you to carry excess baggage.
Throw in individual bags of chips and cookies whenever you can. While it is a great way to have a snack, you may have to check if they make people full that they eat less during the main meals. This might, however, vary from person to person and family to family.
Going camping can be fun as long as you have packed all the essential items. Do not forget to carry a book or ball for fun during the day. You may also have a list of songs that you will sing as you roast marshmallows on the campfire. With smart decisions, you will eat healthy meals and avoid rushing to the emergency room.
