A women sneezing durning Allergy Season
Those that suffer from seasonal allergies often dread when the first signs of spring appear. They understand that they are about to be hit with serious allergy symptoms due to the increase in pollen and dust in the air. There are prescriptions to take, of course, but the best way to ensure that they work is that you take extra precautions.
This means that you have to get your house ready for allergy season. It’s a great time for a deep spring clean anyway. When you focus on how you can reduce your allergy symptoms then you can take advantage of already having to clean to make sure your house is allergen-free.
1 - Clean your ducts
Your HVAC system is one of the biggest culprits when it comes to kicking your allergies into high gear. A lot of contaminants end up accumulating in the ducts of the system. You’ll find dust mites, animal dander, and plenty of pollen trapped inside the ducts which will float around the house when you use your heater with forced hot air. If you let it go then when you start using the air conditioner it will blow allergens out all over the house.
Have a certified HVAC and air duct cleaning company come and flush out those ducts. They will also clear out the filters which have accumulated a lot of particles that you are likely to be allergic to.
Once these are cleaned out you will not only notice fewer allergy symptoms when you are home, but you will also breathe easier with the cleaner air in general anyway.
2 - Get carpets steam cleaned
Carpets are another receptacle that will accumulate a lot of the particles that cause allergies. They are a perfect medium to collect and trap things like dead skin cells, pollen, and animal dander. Once the windows are opened up and some breezes start blowing then these particles end up in the air and are ready to be breathed in.
Have a cleaning company come and do a steam clean of the carpets to get all the dirt and debris out from the carpet all the way down to the base. This is far superior to just vacuuming the carpet since contaminants are trapped deep inside the carpet that stays out of reach of the vacuum.
3 - Wash linens regularly
The problem with sheets and blankets is that they can attract dust mites, pollen, and other particles. You should be washing the linens of your beds more frequently than normal when allergy season is approaching. Leaving windows open will cover your bed with pollen, for instance.
Wash them frequently and dry them in the dryer on high heat to kill everything off. Don’t line dry during pollen season as you will just be making it worse. Once they are cleaned then make sure to keep them in a sealed closet or drawer that isn’t going to allow them to attract more particles before putting them back on the bed.
