Tips for Designing Your Master Bedroom to Feel Like a Hotel

You may not be able to enjoy the high-end hotel stays you have been dreaming of, but you can turn your master bedroom into a space that feels like one and helps you have blissful dreams and excellent rest night after night.

Declutter and Streamline

Before you do anything décor-related, take the time to declutter your master bedroom. If you’re like most people, your boudoir has become a hold-all spot for things that don’t need to be kept there. Plus, you probably have way too many clothes, shoes, handbags, scarves, ties, and other bits and pieces cluttering up the space.

These things probably make the room more stress-inducing than it needs to be. After all, if the main thing you feel when you enter your bedroom is that you have to tidy up, it doesn’t have that calming hotel vibe. It takes some time, but doing a cleanout can make a world of difference to how your master suite comes across. Getting rid of stuff and cleaning as you go will also remove a lot of built-up dust and other debris. In turn, you should sleep more deeply.

Look for ways to streamline your room, too, so as many things as possible stay out of sight. For instance, keep your laundry basket in a cupboard, so you’re not thinking about doing laundry when trying to rest in your room. Get rid of any unnecessary furniture and other accents, too.

Choose a Luxury Mattress

Once your room is as tidy and mess-free as possible, consider your mattress. If you’ve had your current product for eight to ten years, or if it was a hand-me-down in the first place or bought second-hand, it’s time to upgrade. To help your bedroom feel like a high-end accommodation spot, purchase a hotel-quality mattress. Buy a long-lasting, luxury mattress from a trusted brand that will serve you for the decade to come.

Look for features such as copper-infused gel memory foam to achieve better temperature control, mattresses made from natural materials, and those specifically designed to limit movement if you sleep with a restless partner or someone who has a different schedule to you.

While it’s costly to upgrade to a new mattress (a higher quality one even more so), this is a product you will get a lot of use out of for many years. Usually, too, the better the mattress, the better the comfort, and the better you will sleep. In turn, you’ll have more energy and be more focused and productive in your daily tasks.

Consider adding a mattress protector to your bed to increase comfort further and protect your new mattress. For the ultimate hotel-feeling master suite, don’t forget to give yourself plenty of good pillow options, too, including extras for decoration or support when you sit up in bed to read or watch TV.

Buy Sumptuous Bed Linen

Hotels are known for boasting lovely, sumptuous bed linen of a high thread count that survives wash after wash. To get the same luxurious feel for your home, upgrade to a new set or two of quality sheets that feel soft to the skin. It pays to have enough linen on hand that you always have a spare set on wash day. You may want to choose a crisp, white set of sheets to get the contemporary hotel vibe or colored options that match your quilt cover or comforter set. Choose sheets with a minimum of 300 thread count and opt for sateen or percale materials, depending on the feel you like best.

Invest in Proper Drapery

Luxury hotels are known for being quiet and dark to promote a good night’s sleep. They do this by having excellent drapery. To get the same kind of results, buy proper blinds or curtains that minimize outside sound and light. For the ultimate pay-off, choose electric drapes with remote control. This way, you can open and close the shades at will from the comfort of your bed each morning and night.

2020 is turning out to be an even more stressful year than usual for most people, due to the coronavirus pandemic and related economic fallout. You can help yourself to rest and recharge more effectively, though, by taking steps to turn your current bedroom into a hotel-style oasis.
