We live in a fast-paced society where the increasing demands of modern life can wreak havoc on both our physical and mental health. Trying to balance work, technology such as catching up on messages on your phone, a social life and hobbies, it is harder than ever to keep on top of everything you’re supposed to be doing. This can take the joy out of your everyday activities and mean you put things like exercise or mindfulness right on the back burner. In this article we take a look at why health should be a priority in 2025 and how you can ensure you take better care of yourself.

The Importance Of Prioritizing Your Health In 2025

Why should health be your number 1 priority in 2025?

There are so many reasons you should make your health a priority in 2025. As said above, no matter the reason why you want to get healthier, it’s important you look at the benefits as a whole. This is why your health is so important:

It can impact every area of your life

Health isn’t something that you can brush under the carpet. It’s something that can impact every element of your life and if you’re not taking care of yourself, you’ll feel that in more ways than one. Chronic diseases which can be caused by poor health include diabetes, heart disease and mental health disorders such as anxiety. These can cause you to not be able to do things you enjoy anymore, such as going out to see friends or hobbies that you love. Being overly stressed and burnt out can also impact your relationship both with friends and loved ones as it’s easy to deflect it onto others and have a negative result.

There are many long-term benefits to preventing things before they happen

Prevention is always better than cure, and by being healthier in all aspects of your daily life you can prevent things from happening in the future. We touched upon some of the long-term impacts that poor healthcare can have, such as diabetes, obesity, heart disease and more and not only do these impact your quality of life, but also can be very expensive. If you don’t take care of yourself, you’re more likely to have lower healthcare costs, an increased lifespan and also a better quality of life too. So it’s a winner all round!

It’s too easy to set bad habits but it’s not too late to replace them

We live in a time when it’s so easy to have bad habits in many aspects of our life. Many people work from a desk which is very sedentary and therefore don’t walk around enough. We also eat more processed food than ever and are constantly bombarded by digital information and doom scrolling which can contribute to bad mental health. These are all things that will likely get worse not better so you want to take hold of them sooner rather than later. It is easy for you to set bad habits, but breaking them is easier the sooner you do it. By replacing bad habits with good ones and being more conscious of your health both physically and mentally, you’ll help to avoid these habits from becoming worse and show you’re aware. This can help you to be healthier, happier and more likely to have less issues going forward.

How you can build up your physical health

There are two main elements to your health - physical and mental. If you are looking to build your physical health, there are some easy things you can do that can make a real difference in no time. This includes:

Eat well

Eating well doesn’t mean you have to go on a strict diet or miss out on everything you love in life. Instead, try to do things with moderation. You can eat a biscuit or enjoy a glass of wine, but don’t do it everyday, instead see it as a treat. When you can, try and eat at least five portions of fruit and vegetables a day, whether this is in a pasta sauce, as an accompaniment to a meal, or a snack. You should also ensure you’re drinking enough water, whether this is plain water, squash or in a cup of tea, the liquid all counts and can ensure you’re not dehydrated. Drinking enough can help you sleep better, feel more alert and improve your skin and overall wellbeing too.

Exercise regularly

Exercise is vital for being healthy but if you’re someone that groans at the idea of having to workout, you’re not alone. Instead of seeing it as a chore and that you need to slog away in the gym on a treadmill if that’s really not your thing, find something you really enjoy. There are so many options out there for you to work out and get fit, there’s no excuse not to do it. Perhaps you really enjoy playing a sport such as tennis or netball? If so, why not do this? It can also be a great excuse to meet up with a friend or meet new people in your area. You could choose to go swimming, or join a running club. The important thing is not seeing it as a chore and enjoying what you do.

Get enough sleep

While you might just feel groggy when you don’t have enough sleep, you also need to think about the deeper impact it has on you. Not getting enough sleep can lead to weight gain, anxiety, depression and more. Luckily there are many things you can do that can help you not only get enough sleep, but ensure the quality of your sleep is good too. Make sure you have a relaxing and comforting sleep space, that you wind down in the hours before going to bed and that you don’t eat or drink anything at least an hour before going to sleep. You should also avoid looking at a screen before you go to sleep and try to have a consistent sleep routine every evening.

Have regular check-ups

While we can try and do everything possible to stay healthy, it’s important to get yourself checked regularly by a doctor to ensure everything is working as it should be and detect any potential issues early. It can be a good idea to look up how to choose a concierge doctor to get tailored healthcare just for you that will help you get the help and care you deserve. Concierge doctors are known for delivering personalized and more accessible healthcare to a smaller group of patients in order to give the best possible service.

How you can take care of your mental health

Mental health is also important and is something you need to take as much care of as your physical health. While this was once undermined as people being ‘sad’ or ‘a bit stressed’ it is taken a lot more seriously now and shouldn’t be undermined.

Keep your stress under control

The first thing you need to do when looking to improve your mental health is to keep your stress under control. It’s easy to let things become overwhelming, but this isn’t good for you. Stress can lead to high levels of cortisol and inflammation which can make you really ill.

Stay connected

Loneliness is one of the biggest detriments to mental health and it’s easy to feel lonely in this day and age when you’re constantly surrounded by social media where you can feel left out of things or like you’re in touch with people when in reality you haven’t spoken to them properly in a long period of time. Take the time to cultivate meaningful relationships and keep in touch with people over the phone instead of just dropping a message or a like on their social media page. If you’re feeling lonely, don’t be afraid to reach out and if it gets extreme, you can speak to a doctor or professional.

Find things that help you to wind down

It’s important to take time for yourself and to relax in life. Every day, carve out at least an hour to do something you love. This might be cooking, it could be relaxing with a cup of coffee and a book, or perhaps taking a walk in the fresh air. Never underestimate how powerful these small acts can be for your mental health and helping you feel better.

These are just a few ways that you can prioritise your health in 2025 and how you can make a real difference to your life going forward. Remember that there is no time quite like the present to get yourself in better shape both mentally and physically.
