Oscar de la Renta’s Retrospective Exhibition Is Now Open

Oscar de la Renta is celebrating with his family and friends today the opening of his exhibition – "Oscar de la Renta: American Icon" – at the William J. Clinton Presidential Center in Little Rock, Arkansas.

The retrospective exhibit was curated by Andre Leon and will look at the designers remarkable life and career, displaying 30-plus of his pieces, from his couture designs for Balmain, to red carpet dresses worn by the likes of Jessica Chastain and Sarah Jessica Parker, as well as gowns formerly worn by Hillary Clinton and daughter Chelsea. The exhibition will even have a gown worn by Laura Bush on display, making it a true non-partisan exhibition.

Even though Hillary is not a First Lady remembered for her style, it feels natural that this exhibition will be hosted at her husband’s Presidential library. Hillary has been open about her admiration for the designer for a long time now. Back in 1998, Hillary praised Oscar in a Vogue interview, calling him "a true American original," and more recently at the 2013 CFDA Awards , telling the audience that the pair "share a great friendship that has meant the world to me and to my family."

In fact, she came up with the idea for the tribute a while ago, leaving Oscar feeling extremely humbled by the gesture.

"I was very honored. Originally, I thought the library had some of the other clothes that I had done for Mrs. Clinton. I was told, ‘No, this is not all about Mrs. Clinton. Its about you," he told WWD.

It will run through December 1. But if you arnt able to make it to Arkansas, check out some preview images below!
