Interior design is one thing, but creating a space of positive energy through interior design in your bedroom is something on a whole other level. The mystical and ancient Chinese art of arranging objects to attract positive energy may sound like voodoo, but trust me; it is the game changer you have been searching for.
Feng shui principles are aimed at bringing peace and prosperity to any space, and with the bedroom being the place where you spend a fair amount of time, it could just be the most important room in your home. Bringing this sacred and balanced energy into your bedroom is bound to leave you feeling more and better rested, in turn, changing the tone of your entire day.
By making just a few minor adjustments to your furniture, you can enhance the natural harmony in this sacred space while dually avoiding the accumulation of any negative energies. Less is definitely more in this approach to home improvement, and these tips are going to help you out. So, let’s get into it…
1. Bed Placement
Arranging your bed properly and correctly is absolutely essential to creating the right energetic space that you want. Your bed and preferably wooden bedside cabinet should be arranged in a commanding position, meaning that when you are in your bed, you are facing the bedroom door but not directly in line with the door.
According to the principles of feng shui, you do not want any doors to open directly in line with your bed. And having your feet point out the door is a definite no-no. This is referred to as the “coffin position.”
2. The Headboard
If you do not have one, get one. In feng shui, the headboard represents support and stability in your life, particularly relating to romantic relationships. A solid headboard, devoid of perforations, is suggested, with soft edges. Ensure that your headboard is securely attached so that you are able to feel and experience the support and stability that it has to offer.
3. Remove the Clutter Under Your Bed
As far as it is possible, you want to clear the space under your bed so that the life force energy, Qi (pronounced chee), can flow freely around you as you rest. The principles here entail that objects such as shoes carry the energy of movement, which is not conducive to resting.
Love letters from an ex or war novels, for example, do not carry restful and enhancing energies and are thus not good for your time to recharge and reset as you need to. If you do have to store anything under your bed, it is a better idea to store a small number of books with positive titles and uplifting content. Leave the drama and sad stories elsewhere.
4. Minimize Electronics
TVs, laptops, and cellphones are a big no-no, as these devices emit rather large amounts of both magnetic and electric fields that disturb and interfere with your sleep and your immune system. Endless scrolling on your phone before bed should be avoided in the first place.
Reading a book before you rest your head is a much better suggestion, and perhaps using a traditional alarm clock is not so bad after all. You are trying to create a space of peace and rest, so leave the gadgets to the waking hours of your day instead.
5. Symmetry is Important
Keeping your space aesthetically balanced is going to help to keep the energy in your room balanced. Leaving equal room on both sides of your bed allows for the creation of this balance and is pleasing to the eye. Symbolically, this symmetry in space allows equal space for both partners and is something that allows for more harmony in a relationship.
6. Make use of Feng Shui-Friendly Colors
Colors are very important when being used in feng shui, as each color resonates at a certain frequency and vibration. Using beiges, cream, and earth tone colors is the most conducive, while overstimulating colors will not afford you a restful and rejuvenating sleep. Cool blues and pale greens are also good for rejuvenating your energy and your vitality.
Trust me, choosing the right colors matters. Candles and crystals, or even some art, are great ways to add a dash of complimentary color, but be sure not to overdo it.
7. Select your Art Selectively
Art in your bedroom says a lot about your personality and about how you feel about life. To incorporate feng shui principles into this equation, to encourage love and romance, for example, photos of your family should be placed in other rooms.
If, on the other hand, you are single and looking for a romantic partnership, consider artwork depicting couples - two items in an image or art that comes in pairs. Avoid pictures and images of a single person or a stand-alone object.
8. Keep Work Life Separate
Your bedroom is no place for your office or even your workspace. They should be two distinct and separate spaces that do not share energies. During your working hours, you need to be awake and alert, and that is not the kind of energy that you want around you when you are trying to rest.
Realistically, if it is not possible for you to separate these two spaces, it will help to create some kind of a divide between your desk and your bed. A curtain or a folding screen will work, or at the very least, covering your desk with an idle piece of cloth or lightly colored blanket will do the trick. You do not want your laptop staring back at you throughout the night, now do you?
Tailoring your bedroom to create the ideal conditions for your rest, relaxation, and recovery is as important as having a comfortable bed to sleep in. By applying these principles of feng shui, you will find new levels of rejuvenation during your downtimes, and incorporating this energy practice will assist you in attracting what you want to you. Tried and tested for hundreds of years, these principles should be the standard for any and all modern home improvements.
