A Travel Guide to Encinitas

Explore Encinitas, California

Encinitas is a cool beach town at the north end of San Diego County with a main street out of a 1950s George Lucas scene. Come check out what Encinitas has to offer.

The first stop on your visit should be Moonlight State Beach. Moonlight has a large parking area, lots of facilities, and is super close to the town of Encinitas, making it an easy walk and a great getaway spot. The volleyball courts set up on the northern end of the beach attract a lot of players. You will also be able to spot surfers in the break near D Street. Moonlight State Beach is the perfect spot to soak up some rays, surf, or swim in the water, and the sunset is a must-see site. It's also a great place to celebrate birthdays or picnics with loved ones.

If you aren’t a beach person, visit the famous San Diego Botanic Garden. Encinitas is known as the Flower Capital of the World. With more than 4,000 of the rarest, most exotic, and endangered plants on display across 35 landscaped acres, the garden is true beauty. The plants on display originate from Central America, Africa, Australia, the Middle East, and more. The San Diego Botanic Gardens hold the most diverse collection of bamboo you'll find in North America, California native plants, and subtropical fruits. The park’s interactive children’s garden is the largest on the West Coast. Kids will be able to roll around in the Seeds of Wonder garden, experience a baby dinosaur forest, and explore a beautiful secret garden.

If you're a shopaholic and looking for new threads, visit Hansen’s. This store is one of San Diego’s oldest surfboard manufacturers, and they have the finest selection of surf apparel, wetsuits, surf cams, and casual wear.

Then, stop by Cardiff Beach Bar @ Tower 13 for a bite. This surf-themed place is a popular sports bar among locals and tourists, and it's kid-friendly. This place is great for the whole family to enjoy a fun night out and a delicious meal. The menu consists of mouth-watering burgers, sauteed mussels, Philly Cheesesteaks, and chicken wings. If the weather is perfect, enjoy your meal outside for a beautiful sunset.

Not the sports bar type? Try La Especial Norte. This Mexican cafe is another popular hit among locals and tourists and serves some of the best and most delicious homemade soups. They also have amazing fajitas and tacos––wash your meal down with premium margaritas.

Vegans will enjoy Ki’s Restaurant. Ki’s is known for their heart-healthy, gluten-free, vegan dishes. The menu also has turkey wraps that are wrapped in wheat bread and dinner options like Thai seafood curry and Asian salmon salad on a bed of organic greens. All meals are prepared with minimal fat.

Encinitas has a lot to offer and is a great place to spend an evening either by yourself or with the whole family. So plan a day and visit Encinitas; there is something for everyone.
