Natural living as a mom can be tough. When you’re juggling taking the little ones to school, going to work, cooking for the family, or whatever other responsibilities you shoulder, it can be difficult to make your health a priority.
However, it’s important to stay healthy for the sake of yourself and your family. That said, the solution to living a healthy life isn’t always simply in a new prescription pill that will solve all your problems. Embracing a natural lifestyle, instead, can be the first step toward health, wellness, and happiness.
Be Careful What You Put in Your Body
The first way to live a natural, healthy life is to watch what you put in your body. Whether it be junk food, over-the-counter medications, or whatever else, you should be vigilant when it comes to the consumption of anything.
Even things that we see as relatively harmless can result in negative side effects. For example, the birth control Depo-Provera has been linked to an increased risk of brain tumors, while certain pesticides have been linked to cancer. So, while you might use a pesticide simply to clean up the environment in your garden, you could be harming yourself in the long run.
This is why it’s important to do your research before you introduce unnatural chemicals into your lifestyle. The same goes for foods that you put in your mouth. Educate yourself on the foods that will nourish your body and before you opt for over-the-counter medications, see if there are natural solutions to your issue.
Prioritize a Good Night’s Sleep
People are quick to reach for sleep medications before they address the underlying problems that undermine a good night’s rest. For example, people who expose themselves to screens before bed or eat before sleeping might have trouble attaining the quality rest they crave.
Additionally, having a habit of exercising during the day and using up your energy can ensure that you’re properly fatigued by the time you’re ready to rest. Once you get your sleep schedule in order, you’ll be surprised at how much energy you have to tackle the rest of the day's problems and show up properly for your family.
Exercise Regularly
Staying active is one of the best things you can do for your mood and your body. While there will always be an excuse to skip going to the gym, you’ve got to make it a priority. Even if you don’t go to the gym, just incorporate workouts at your home or go on runs around the neighborhood if you’d like.
These days, you don’t have an excuse not to work out. There are numerous trainers on YouTube that you can follow along with that have equipment-free exercises you can do in the comfort of your home.
Exercising daily will improve your mood, your energy levels, and your overall happiness. Just make sure to use proper form if you’re incorporating weights into your routine because the last thing you want is to sustain an injury.
Practice Monotasking
While it may seem like multitasking is the key to freeing up your weekly schedule and solving your problems, the opposite is actually true. When you’re chatting on the phone, doing laundry, cooking dinner, texting a friend and playing with your kids all at the same time, chances are you aren’t properly attending to any of these tasks. You aren’t giving all of your attention to the conversation, your children and you’re likely burning dinner.
Additionally, when you let yourself get distracted regularly, a whole day can go by with you feeling that you didn’t get anything done at all. Instead, you want to focus on monotasking: Focusing on one task at a time.
Monotasking can help you reduce your stress levels and get more done in a day. When you’re a woman of focus, you can free up your time so you can make those moments with your loved ones count.
And practicing monotasking can also help you avoid potential disasters. If you just focus on cooking dinner for the kiddos, you’re less likely to forget something in the oven and cause a house fire. If you’re just focused on driving and aren’t texting or eating while you drive, you’re less likely to injure your family in a car accident.
Become a Digital Minimalist
These days, one of the worst things for our health is the way we engage with technology. It damages our attention span, our sleep, and our sense of self. This isn’t to say that you need to become a hermit living in a wood cabin in a forest. But most of us could use a little digital minimalism in our lives.
To start, you might want to set timers on your phone to restrict the amount of time you can engage with social media apps. If you want to take it a step further, you could delete the apps off your phone altogether.
If you’re having trouble limiting your usage, you could even invest in a “phone jail.” These are containers you can purchase online that you can lock your phone inside for a specified amount of time.
When you limit your consumption of social media and decrease your screen time, you’ll find yourself more confident and happy overall.
When you’re busy taking care of your family, it isn’t always easy to care for yourself. That said, there are a number of natural living habits you can incorporate to improve your quality of life and your relationships with your family members. Follow our above tips and you’ll soon see the benefits both physically and emotionally.
