Low Fat Recipes: Dairy Free Bleu Cheese

Dairy Free Bleu Cheese

You don’t have to be a vegetarian or vegan to enjoy the health benefits of dairy-free foods, especially when they’re made with delicious products like Vegenaise—an eggless, gluten-free mayonnaise replacement with the bold, intriguing tagline: "It’s Better than Mayo."

And if you really want to put this to the test, here’s a great recipe for a dairy-free bleu cheese dressing with a rich, zesty flavor and lots of chunky tofu crumbles. You’ll be amazed at how authentic it tastes and how well it goes with salads, fresh veggies, hot wings and just about anything else that requires a special kick.

The best part is it’s extremely low in fat and cholesterol, making it an excellent option for anyone who’s trying to lose weight, lower their cholesterol or just eat a little lighter. And staying true to its promise, Vegenaise does, surprisingly, taste better than traditional mayo. It’s smooth and creamy with a mild mayo taste, but not over-sweetened like the regular stuff tends to be. So try it on your next salad or bring it to the next party you attend—your friends will be pleasantly surprised when you tell them it’s 100% dairy-free.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup Vegenaise
  • 2 Tbs lemon juice
  • 1 Tbs apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tsp tahini
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp sea salt
  • 1/4 tsp ground pepper
  • 1/3 cup silken tofu, crumbled

Method:

  1. Combine all ingredients except for the tofu crumbles in a small mixing bowl or measuring cup. Whisk the ingredients together until it becomes smooth, creamy and evenly blended. Gently stir in the tofu crumbles and chill for 10 or 15 minutes before serving, or store it in a mason jar and refrigerate until needed.

This is one of those recipes you'll turn to again and again, whenever you need a delicious dressing or fresh, tasty dip. And it'll be your go-to recipe when you're cooking for vegans, vegetarians, strict dieters or someone who happens to be lactose intolerant. Vegenaise is becoming so popular you can now find it at most major grocery stores in the natural foods section. And you can find more recipes like this (including an amazing ranch dip) and lots of unique cooking ideas at IncredibleVeganChef.com.
