Being charged with organizing an event to celebrate someone’s special day can be nerve wracking, even for the most experienced host or party planner. With responsibilities ranging from finding a venue and drawing up guest lists (and perhaps seating plans), to arranging suitable music, food, liquid refreshments and of course a celebration cake, there’s a lot to think about, and no margin for error. Still, the effort is always worth it when you look back and reflect on your successful planning, which delivered an amazing, unforgettable experience.
If the thought of taking on a task with so many variables unnerves you don’t despair, as despite the workload, you can guarantee a celebration party will be successful by following three simple guidelines.
Don’t Even Consider Throwing a Surprise Party
If such a thought enters your head, however fleetingly, banish it immediately, as the chances of things working out without at least one person involved coming close to a breakdown are slight. It is entirely possible that the guest star of the event is an extremely outgoing, attention seeking, gregarious type of person, the sort who would love nothing more than to be tricked into showing up somewhere under false pretences. Still, the effort to send invites and maintain the necessary level of secrecy is exhausting and almost impossible, especially with the added risk of social media chat giving things away. The reality is that very few people really relish this kind of surprise, and many would actively hate it.
Consult the Guest(s) of Honor before Sending Invitations
Having established that surprise parties almost guarantees at best an awkward celebration and at worst disaster, tip two places the final say on the guest list firmly in the court of the guest or guests of honor. Forget social etiquette and let the most important people decide if all invites offer a +1, whether children are welcomed or banished, and if they are comfortable with ex-partners and spouses putting in an appearance. Although baby showers are traditionally female-only events it is up to the mom-to-be to decide if she wants to invite men she is close to.
This can get awkward, as the organizer is also paying for everything and has different opinions on which relatives attend a wedding for instance, but forcing unwanted guests on others is never going to make for a truly relaxed and enjoyable celebratory event, so resist the temptation to interfere or override decisions at all costs.
Order a Special Cake
Every celebration party needs a cake, and the best events have one which is unique, created especially for the guest(s) of honor. For guaranteed ‘wow’ reactions, make arrangements to have your favorite photo on a cake made by the top class bakers at bakerdays. Cakes are available for a wide variety of different celebrations, with popular themes being original wedding photographs on an anniversary cake, or baby photographs on a 21st birthday cake. The photo on a cake concept can also be used to send a message to the guest(s) of honor, for example by using a photograph of the car you bought your son or daughter as a surprise gift for passing their driving test.
Now you are equipped with the three essential tips for success you can relax and enjoy the party planning.
