Fall 2013 Jewelry Trend: Chokers

Accessories are always a key component of fall fashion. They make it so one is able to still feel fashionable while being wrapped up like a human burrito in layers of fall/winter clothing.

This fall season, one of these accessories proved to be the choker, reborn on the runway in fierce and face-framing forms.

Heavy chain chokers –

From the runways of Chanel to Michael Kors, oversized chain-linked chokers – blending elements of punk and hip hop – made trendy appearances.

Lanvin’s collection, too, was rich in heavy chain chokers, yet offered more of a multi-layered take and were adorned with door knocker-sized ornaments for even more statement-making power.

The key here is to go big. But you can wear these heavy chain chokers with anything from an elegant dress or suit (as done at Chanel) to a t-shirt.

Minimal & modern

A totally different approach to chokers was taken by Celine and Christopher Kane, who went down a more minimalist (even futuristic) route.

Chokers with center strips

Azzaro, Chanel and Versace introduced this season chokers with center strips running down the sternum – a bold look that blurs the line between necklace and harness.

Versace’s punk spiked and studded chokers and chokers of layered chains that dripped with nails and razor blades left no doubt as to their toughness.
