Sooner or later, the moment comes when we decide to refresh our house’s appearance. And what is the easiest way to do that? Right, to paint a facade.

It seems to be extremely easy - just take a brush or a roller, and go over the walls with paint. But in fact, facade painting needs way more attention to get a proper result! Besides, not all the paints dry equally fast, and to get evenly colored walls, it would be necessary to learn their drying times.

So, to help your house look fresh and neat again, consider the basic hints regarding painting it.

Three Steps to Take When Painting Facades

To have a perfectly painted house, only three simple steps must be taken. Even if you are not a specialist in walls painting, these actions will be very easy to perform.

  1. Prepare the walls

It influences how even the paint will cover the walls. First of all, the facade needs washing, or, maybe, even scraped. For washing, choose paint removing liquid and a wash-down brush on the extended handle. Let the walls dry completely before you proceed to the next stage.

If your house needs some scraping, delete the old paint with a special scraper. Afterward, cover the cleaned areas with a primer. If the walls are wooden and they are rotting somewhere, substitute those damaged pieces.

Rusty nail heads must be cleaned and covered with anti-corrosive paint.

  1. Painting stage

When it comes to painting, people often get confused with the instrument. What is better, a brush or a roller? In fact, it doesn’t matter, but make sure you buy proper ones.

  • If you prefer brushes, buy two types. One must be wide for the outdoor painting since it can hold a lot of paint and another one must be angled with an extended handle - to reach the spots that are hard to get to.

A small tip: the wide brush must be the one as wide as the facade panels.

  • As for the rollers, buy stronger ones if you’re about to paint rough surfaces. And consider those long-nap ones leave more splashes!

For both these instruments, prepare short and long handles so that you won’t have to climb up and down the ladder all the time.

And get the bucket holder ready! It will let you attach the tank to the ladder.

In addition, consider several effective hints regarding the process itself.

  1. Go for the same paint as applied before.

  2. Don’t repaint if the surface is warm or in direct sunlight since the paint will dry too fast and it won’t be able to take a proper grip.

  3. Wipe away all the splashes.

  4. Apply the color to the external walls first and only then proceed to the corners that are usually covered with another color to avoid mixing the colors.

  5. When applying color to the glazed surface, go upwards, in the whole length. It will make the color more even.

3. How to maintain

To help the facade color last longer, it must be taken care of properly. Yes, it will take some time and effort, but it’s better than repainting the whole house every year, right?

That is why it is recommended to clean the external walls every year to keep them in a good state.

Also, repair the facade or repaint where needed. For that, give it a check now and then.

Following these simple hints will allow your house to stay neat and good-looking way longer.
