This method not only cooks the steak to perfection but also imparts a delightful char that's visually appealing and mouthwateringly flavorful. The slightly smoky undertone, a signature of wood-fired cooking, complements the rich, buttery taste of the meat.

The highlight of our dining experience was undoubtedly the Tomahawk steak, perfectly paired with a zesty Chimichurri sauce and a charcoal touch from the wood-fired grill.  Yet, The Amalfi Llama's menu diversity speaks volumes! We started with a signature appetizer, the short rib empanada.  It was a revelation with its golden crust and succulently moist short rib filling. Perfect start to our unique visit down the Alamafi Llama’s food journey.  

Pizza

Being a wood fired inspired restaurant, we just had to sample the Margherita pizza. The Margherita pizza, baked in a wood-fired oven, featured a tantalizing blend of flavors that felt both traditional and innovative. The thin crust was cooked to perfection. Sprinkled with Parmigiana Reggiano, that was exceptionally fresh and flavorful.  It just melted in your mouth.  

Bar

The pasta and seafood offerings were enticing, and we eagerly anticipate exploring these options on future visits. Although we were too full to indulge, the wood-fired cheesecake received glowing recommendations as a unique dessert not to be overlooked. The restaurant boasts an ambiance that alone makes it a destination worth visiting, whether you're looking to enjoy a night out with friends or simply relax in a lively setting. With a DJ spinning contemporary tunes at the perfect volume and a full-service bar ready to quench any thirst, the atmosphere is both welcoming and vibrant.

Meet the Team

The dining experience at The Amalfi Llama is made even more memorable by the staff's attentive service. Rod, our server for the evening, was not only experienced but also exceptionally knowledgeable of the menu and the preparation techniques, making our dining experience seamless. Mario, the manager, was seen interacting and engaging with all the tables and patrons, ensuring that every guest leaves satisfied and eager to return.  Us included!

Community and Culture

Since its opening, The Amalfi Llama has actively engaged with the San Diego community. The restaurant hosts regular events, from live music nights featuring local artists to culinary workshops that teach guests about the techniques and traditions behind the dishes served. When you plan your visit, take a tip from those in the know—don't park in the main parking garage as Google might suggest. Instead, opt for the parking area in front of the restaurant, facing La Jolla Village Drive. It's much more convenient, and you'll appreciate the shorter walk after indulging in a hearty meal.
