Peter Lik: Photographer on the Edge

Peter Lik is a world-renown photographer and host of the Weather Channel television series, "From the Edge with Peter Lik." Lik is a man with a mission: to take his audience to the extremes that nature has to offer through his photography. From the frozen tundras of Alaska to the active volcanoes of Hawaii, Peter Lik captures our world in stunning panoramic photographs that leave viewers with a new appreciation of the world we live in.

Born in Australia, Lik first stepped foot on American soil in 1984 with the goal of learning the art of panoramic photography. Alaska was the perfect training ground for this new style of photography which has become his trademark over the last thirty years. Starting with calendar shoots and honing his craft, Peter Lik is now one of the most famous panoramic photographers of our era.

In the early 90‘s, Peter Lik boosted his professional career working for the tourism field of Australia, where he would photograph largely unknown areas of the continent with Australia’s natural beauty as his muse. He moved to the United States in 1994, and settled in Las Vegas, Nevada where he started Lik USA, and then Peter Lik Publishing. He published his first book in 1997, called "Australia: Images of a Timeless Land."

Early into the new millennium, Peter Lik took on a 50-state photography mission to capture the natural beauty that was his new home: America. He traveled over 50,000 miles and used up over 1,000 rolls of film, later calling this venture, "the biggest challenge of my life." Some of the best pieces made it into his next book, "Spirit of America."

Peter Lik was awarded the title of "Master Photographer" from the Australian Institute of Professional Photography and the Professional Photographers of America, among other high honors from various photography institutes across the world. Sales from his photographs have generated hundreds of millions of dollars, he has opened 13 galleries for his art, set a world record for the sale of his photo, "One" for $1 million, and even hosted his own television series, "From the Edge with Peter Lik." The Smithsonian even hosts two of his art pieces: "Inner Piece" and "Ghost."

Peter Lik’s latest gallery is right here in San Diego. Aptly named LIK SAN DIEGO, this is his largest gallery to date and his first all-white space.
