A Wimbledon-Ready Fashion Guide

Wimbledon has kickstarted. Known as one of the biggest sporting events of the year, it could also be considered one of the biggest fashion events of the British Summer time. Wimbledon sees some of the most sophisticated guests, including royals, arrive in their finest, carefully curated outfits, to watch some of the biggest names in the sport go head to head on the historic grass courts of this world-renowned sporting venue. And while many are keeping their eyes peeled on centre court, others are spotting big name brands and high fashion designer labels worn amongst the most stylish of spectators.

In this Wimbledon fashion guide we delve into the match winning point looks that guarantee ‘best dressed’ every year.

Smart Attire

Despite many believing there is a strict dress code at Wimbledon, there is little guidance from the event hosts on what can and cannot be worn. However, this is a prestigious sporting event which requires respect and so smart attire is typically recommended, particularly to those lucky enough to be watching a game on center court or No.1 court.

In this article we will specifically focus on smart attire for women, since there is such a vast range of options and combinations.

From smart, tailored pants suits to dresses, and co-ords, those lucky enough to have tickets to the biggest games at Wimbledon this year can mix and match pieces to create timeless and elegant looks even the King would approve of. Meanwhile for those who do not have tickets but simply enjoy the style of Wimbledon fashion this may provide some perfect fashion inspiration.

Tailored Shorts Suit

While we can never guarantee bright sunshine and blue skies, a shorts suit is the perfect combination of stylish elegance and comfort for spectating a sporting event. Similar to that of Alexa Chung’s look in 2022, a cream, ivory or white coordinating set, with a blazer for some extra warmth, creates a simple yet timeless look that is perfect for a day at the tennis. And for those not in attendance this style would also be practical for summer BBQs, garden parties, and brunches with friends.

For some added color why not consider switching your co-ord waistcoat or shirt for a colorful cami or satin blouse.

Wide Leg Trousers

Wide leg trousers have always been a staple item seen on Wimbledon goers for years. Paired with a smart shirt, usually striped, or a cropped blazer, they are sophisticated, comfortable and can be dressed up or down depending on your plans. One of our favorite wide-legged trouser looks from Wimbledon’s past includes Meghan Markle’s white wide-leg trousers which she paired with a blue and white striped blouse and simple straw hat to bring the look together. With the addition of a simple nude heel or neutral wedge sandal, a wide-legged trouser is the perfect choice for when the unpredictable British weather calls for something a bit warmer than a dress.

Elegant Midi Dresses

For sitting amongst royalty and well-to-do aristocrats who attend Wimbledon each year, an elegant midi dress that falls just above the knee is ideal. Seen on many occasions at center court, including on the Princess of Wales herself, an elegant midi dress in a neutral tone or simple print offers a sophisticated and timeless look. Throw over a simple knit sweater for a preppy look or a heeled sandal for a relaxed daytime style and you have yourself the perfect daytime Wimbledon style.

Important to remember when attending a sporting event or daytime occasion is to consider your comfort. You will likely be in your outfit for several hours or even an entire day, so be sure not to compromise on your comfort level whilst also remaining stylish and elegant. For those with tickets to Wimbledon, and perhaps fortunate enough to be sat on center court or dining in hospitality, it’s important to consider the elegance of the event and dress accordingly. Thanks to this guide you now have several outfit options for a chic and sophisticated daytime look.
