The monoclonal antibody treatment is carried out through drip infusion into vein. However, the tenacity of treatment would depend on the kind of cancer your body is affected with and the kind of MAB you have.
What Kind of Side-effects be Expected?
Any monoclonal antibody-based treatment comes with its share of side-effects. Side-effects mainly depend on the kind of cell being targeted by the MAB. The type of radioactive substance or drug being used would also be responsible for the type of side-effects. However, the most common side-effect is the allergic reaction. To prevent the reaction, antihistamine and paracetamol drugs are given. Even if the reaction continues, your nurse or doctor could control it by pausing the drip for the time-being. Some of the common side-effect symptoms because of allergic reactions would involve chills, fever, itchiness and rash, sickening feel, breathlessness, wheezing, headaches, flushes and faintness, and changes in blood pressure level.
Maintaining a healthy lifestyle could minimize the chances for the growth of the cancerous cells, within the body. Stay away from tobacco and alcohol. Remember, the research on monoclonal antibody impact on cancerous cells is still in its developing stage. 100% cure is still not guaranteed. So, you must maintain a healthy food habit, regular workout and stay away from tobacco, and alcohol to enjoy a disease-free life.
