What is ceviche? Ceviche originates from South America, and is traditionally a cold salad of marinated raw fish or seafood, garnished and served as an appetizer. Today, people have taken this traditional dish and explored its possibilities, creating dishes like shrimp, ahi tuna, or ceviche with any type of raw seafood. Ceviche has grown in popularity over the past couple years, and one restaurant is taking full advantage of that; Ceviche House, a restaurant that serves a variety of different ceviche dishes amongst other Latin dishes and has recently opened its doors in Old Town. Their menu features a variety of Mexican-inspired seafood dishes full of flavor and ingredients that brighten the plate and the palate.

Ceviche House has both indoor and outdoor seating for customers to enjoy the tropical and minimalist decor of the interior, complete with wooden barstools and floating plants. Ceviche House works with local fishermen and local farmers to select the freshest ingredients for a better dish for the customer. Each plate is made fresh on the spot as is tradition. Ceviche House is doing a great job taking the traditional plates of South America and bringing those new flavors into one of the most historic parts of San Diego.

The menu is separated into seven sections: Recommended, Hot Dishes, Tiradito, Ceviches, Specialties, and Sweets. Their Hot Dishes include traditional chipotle fish tacos, grilled octopus, delicious shrimp tostadas, seared fish and more. Tiradito—a plate similar to ceviche—is a Peruvian dish of raw fish cut sashimi style and served with a spicy sauce. Ceviche House has three different options of tiradito dishes, each with a different array of garnishes to liven up the fish. In addition to these inspiring dishes, Ceviche House has five different kinds of ceviche listed on their menu, each one unique and featuring different ingredients that speak to different regions of Latin America. Whether you decide on a hot dish or a traditional dish of raw fish, it’s a guarantee that you will leave full and happy.
