Choosing an activity holiday can be a challenge. This isn’t because it’s hard to find one, it’s quite the opposite, it’s due to the fact there are so many fantastic options available. On a quick look, you’ll see kayaking trips across the Norwegian fjords, hiking trips along the Portugues Coastal Route from Porto, or cycling tours from Barcelona to Gibraltar and more - the possibilities are endless!
Just like when you are picking a holiday to go on, there are ways to narrow down the right activity holiday to go on. You can break it down to how many days you are going away, the difficulty of the activity, whether you're doing it solo or with your loved ones, the cost and the activity itself.
Keep on reading for our guide on how to decide on what activity holiday to go on.
The areas you will explore
No matter the activity you are going to do, it’s important the places you are going to visit are worthwhile. When away, you want to see breathtaking views and be able to experience the culture of the area. For example, if you went on this Camino de Santiago Frances from St. Jean, you will get to visit amazing places like Najera, Burgos and Leonn and will be travelling over 741 kilometres through northern Spain.
The difficulty of the activity
Don’t underestimate or overestimate the difficulty of the adventure you are planning on going on. Most activity holidays will give you an estimation of how difficult the activity will be. This will give you time to train for it, or if it’s too easy for your current skill set, you can then look at a different type of activity holiday that will challenge you more. If you are going away with friends or family members, try and find something that is the same difficulty for all of you, this way you will enjoy it more.
The length of time you will be away
A very important factor to any breakaway is the length and if you have enough holiday at work to take it. We would all like to go away for two weeks each time, however, this may not be possible, resulting in you looking for shorter activity holidays. The lengths available will vary depending on the type of activity, the difficulty and who is organising it. Some can be around 3 days, others a week with some larger trips being over a month (this is when some people may opt for a sabbatical, so they can challenge themselves). As you can imagine, the longer you go away, the more expensive the trip will be which is also a consideration.
Are you looking to go away on an activity holiday and what trips are you currently looking at? Is there anything you would like to share that will help our guide? How long are you planning on going away for? Let us know in the comment box below, we look forward to hearing from you.
