On September 7, philanthropy and polo join hands for a unique Military and Veterans Recognition Day at The San Diego Polo Club. Steve Lewandowski, polo club announcer and Navy veteran, began this tradition almost ten years ago, serving also as the business development officer of this year’s participating charity, Veterans Research Alliance (VRA).
"San Diego has long been known as a military town," said Lewandowski. "And with good cause. We have a veteran population of 250,000 and we’re also the largest disembarkation area in the country for returning vets from Iraq and Afghanistan. I think that we have a special obligation to them."
On Military and Veterans Recognition Day at The San Diego Polo Club, all active duty military and veterans will enjoy free admission in recognition for their service to our country. The event will include a presentation by military color guard for the national anthem, along with a flag ceremony carried by members of local charity, The San Diego Nice Guys, as well as members of Encinitas American Legion Post 416.
"At the VRA, we believe that men and women who so bravely served our country deserve the best clinical health care available," said Lewandowski. "The Veterans Health Administration provides services to veterans who deal with unique health challenges like PTSD, Traumatic brain injury, prosthetics, as well as heart disease and diabetes for our aging veterans."
The mission of the VRA is to fund innovative, life saving research that leads to increased health improvements and long term medical cures for one of the largest veteran populations in the country.
Special VIP tickets will be available for $50 on the day of the event. A live auction will be held after the first game at approximately 2:30p.m..
