While some people are fortunate enough to have naturally radiant skin, the rest of us have to put genuine effort into keeping our skin looking its best. Unfortunately, if you’ve fallen into the habit of using damaging products or fundamentally not understanding what type of care your skin type entails, this can be an uphill battle. Luckily, getting the youthful-looking skin of your dreams may be much easier than you realize – especially with the following pointers at your disposal.

Easy Ways to Keep Your Skin Looking Clear and Youthful

Don’t Over-Cleanse Your Face

While regularly washing your face is among the foremost tenets of good skincare, many of us overdo it in this regard. For example, while many skincare experts recommend washing your face at least twice a day, there are some notable exceptions to this rule. For example, if you don’t wear makeup or engage in strenuous workouts, a single daily cleansing should be more than sufficient. Over-cleansing stands to deplete your skin of precious natural oils, leaving it dry and irritated. Again, unless you wear makeup or have supremely oily skin, there’s a good chance you’ll be able to get by with just one washing per day.

Moisturize

It’s easy to see why so many dermatologists stress the importance of moisturizing. While facial cleansings serve to remove dead skin cells and assorted contaminants, they also strip your skin of natural oils, thus setting the stage for dryness and irritation. Moisturizing helps replenish the moisture lost from cleansing, thereby preventing skin from drying out or becoming irritated. So, if your skin seems to be in a perpetual state of dryness and/or irritation, a good moisturizer may hold the key to fixing things.

Of course, this isn’t to say that moisturizing is a “one size fits all” endeavor. There are different moisturizers for different skin types, and using the wrong moisturizer is liable to exacerbate any skin issues you’re currently experiencing. For example, if someone with oily skin uses a moisturizer formulated for people with dry skin, excessive oiliness and the skin irritation associated therewith are likely to result.

Additionally, people with sensitive skin are liable to find that some moisturizers cause irritation. If this sounds familiar, look for moisturizers that are specially formulated for sensitive skin. You can also help prevent irritation by applying no more than the recommended amount of moisturizer after each washing. If you’re unclear on the recommended amount, simply consult the product’s packaging.

Consider Water-Only Washing

Not only is face-washing a regular staple of skincare, facial soap is arguably the most common skincare-related tool. However, if you have extremely sensitive skin, even the gentlest facial soap may leave you dry and irritated. So, if every facial soap you’ve tried only serves to irritate your skin, you may want to consider water-only washing

As the name implies, this practice entails cleansing your face with nothing but water. Water-only washing can be an effective way to stave off irritation and help your skin retain more of its natural oils. Of course, this isn’t to say that everyone will see the same results with water-only washing, nor is this practice for everyone. For example, if you wear makeup or have excessively oily skin, water alone won’t be enough to cleanse your face.

Consult a Dermatologist as Needed

Some skin issues can’t be remedied without professional intervention. So, if there are any issues you’ve devoted ample time and money to fixing to no avail, don’t hesitate to reach out to a good dermatologist. Once the problem has been formally diagnosed and an effective treatment plan is underway, you’re likely to wonder why you didn’t seek professional help much earlier.

In addition to helping you treat existing skin problems, a dermatologist will be able to make practical recommendations for preventing future skin issues. They may even recommend changes in dietary habits and steer you towards health-conscious snacks, like collagen stick packs.

Easy Ways to Keep Your Skin Looking Clear and Youthful

There’s no denying that some of us have to put a lot more effort into skincare than others. Unless you’re someone who’s fortunate enough to have naturally flawless skin, the amount of time you spend on skincare is unlikely to be insignificant. However, it’s entirely possible that you’re doing too much and making things worse for yourself without even realizing it. Anyone looking for no-hassle ways to keep their skin looking clear and youthful should consider the advice outlined above.
