I was psyched when I didn’t have any breakouts when I was interviewed on MTV Style last week in NYC. I knew I was at a vulnerable time of the month so I did everything I could to make sure I didn't have any red bumpy friends on my face as I spoke about skin health.
The most important thing I shared with them was that skin is skin, and it should be treated the same. Whether you are a shade of brown, peach, yellow, tan, olive, or pink, your skin needs the same thing as the person sitting next to you: a clear passageway.
The more chemicals ingested in the body, the more the body has to get rid of what it cannot use––otherwise it stores it inside of the layers of the skin. When these chemicals are stored, they cause acidity. All disease is caused from the body being in an acidic state. You can see the new understanding of this with the trend of alkaline water being sold in stores. This is wonderful, as we are starting to understand as a nation the power of preventative healthcare.
What does this have to do with acne? When your body has excessive chemicals ingested from the mouth or skin, it slows down the highway, or transportation route, of the skin. When you clog that passageway up or slow down the transport, things get backed up. Hormones that are naturally released by the body for essential reasons wind up in the body longer than they should be due to the sluggish detoxification by the skin. This causes excessive oil production by the sebaceous (oil) glands, which creates acne.
If your body is being properly nourished from the foods you eat, the endocrine system is more apt to releasing hormones in a balanced way.
There are three major things you can actively do to prevent acne:
1) Drink water with lemon throughout the day. This simple addition in your life has the ability to change how your whole body functions. Lemon water increases the body’s pH––which helps to fight disease––and it increases the speed in which things are processed out of the body.
2) Eat whole foods and leave out processed foods. The chemicals and preservatives that rest in processed foods for years at a time on a shelf slow down the body’s natural detoxification.
3) Only use zinc oxide as your sunscreen. If you have been following Veridatta, you know the importance of keeping toxic chemical sunscreens off of your precious skin. If you are completely unaware of the why, check out our campaign so you can understand why traditional sunscreens are the cause of acne breakouts and hormonal fluxes.
Stop acne from starting!
