Top Restaurants With Oysters. With Summer coming soon around the corner, we San Diegans need a great place for sea meats that is just as cold as our surf mist and oysters are the go to for our beach front towns. We have selected some of the best places just for that. So add oyster bar hopping to your summer of fun list.
Donovan's Prime Seafood
Located in the Gaslamp Quarter, Donovan’s Prime Seafood is always offering some of the freshest market fish but go just beyond the the alcohol bar (and grab a drink of course) and go inside their jazz themed dining room and you will discover their new, fully-serviced oyster bar. They offer up to 41 bi-coastal options and during happy hour (4 to 6pm) they are just $1. They serve their oysters with a house-made watermelon mignonette that is perfect for those warm summer nights in San Diego.
Brooklyn Girl
This husband-and-wife owned restaurant, located on 4033 Goldfinch St. Mission Hills, still does the crab salads, veggie gnocchi and pork chops, but their $12 oyster sliders should be the new thing to try out. They have recently introduced an oyster bar that is for evenings-only. Their oysters are bought from a family owned oyster farm from the Morro Bay and is suggested to go great with a Sauvignon blanc. There are four other different types of oysters that have been acquired from the rivers of Virginia and the seacoasts of Canada. The menu at the oyster bar includes Long Island Littleneck clams, King Crab Legs, New England clam chowder with a delicious Thai basil broth.
Solace and the Moonlight Lounge
You can find this raw-seafood bar in Downtown Encinitas. Their menu includes peel-and-eat shrimp, yellowtail tartare and $1.50 oysters for the weekday happy hour. Matt Gordon, the chief-owner, has also introduces some new items to the menu: seared diver scallops, leek-and-bacon stuffed trout and a risotto style farro and shrimp dish.
Ironside Fish & Oyster
Ironside Fish & Oyster is a great little place in an old warehouse looking building in Little Italy and is one of the best spots in Southern California to get oysters. They also serve Kusshi, old Mexican shrimp and chowder fries. Plus they have an awesome bar that is a great paired with the raw bar. Complement your oysters with a side of mignonette sauce.
Spike Africa’s Fresh Fish Grill & Bar
Spike Africa’s Fresh Fish Bar & Grill, located in the Gaslamp Quarter, is a real bargain. The oysters served here are known for having a crisp salty and sweet finish. It also pleases the palate with its juices, brine, sweetness and meatiness. But, if you are looking for something different and with more substance, go for the oyster bake or the oyster pan roast. Complement your meal with a nice refreshing chardonnay.
Sally’s Seafood on the Water
Located on top of the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Downtown San Diego, Sally’s Seafood on the Water serve the freshest oysters you can get. Pair it with a side of horseradish sauce or their house-made sauce for that little extra kick of flavor. If you want to try something a bit more infused with flavor, then take a bite of the oysters served with fennel cream and green apple and pair it with a nice pinot.
The Oceanaire Seafood Room
Oceanaire Seafood Room is another great spot in the Gaslamp Quarter, more specifically the East Village, that offer the best selection of oysters. They get their oysters from New York New Zealand and Prince Edward Island. Try the oysters with a side of delicious truffled whipped potatoes or brussels with bacon. These oysters go great with a Kettle One Citron martini. These oysters also go well with a bottle of Groth Sauvignon Blanc.
