VALENTE HAIR SALON

AN INTERVIEW WITH OWNER LAUREN AND A PERSONAL LOOK AT THE SALON

Lauren Valente is no run-of-th-mill hair and beauty stylist. She originally received her beauty school certification at Paul Mitchell here in San Diego. Valente also spent several years in Italy studying European beauty styles and techniques with top local stylists. Her father was as a contractor for the navy, which allowed Lauren to start her beauty business on the local base in Italy. "I found that women were often afraid to go off base to get their hair done because of the language barrier," Lauren explained, "…they didn’t want any miscommunications to ruin their hair. I saw a need for a beauty salon on base." Lauren first started doing the women’s hair on base in their homes or in her apartment, but business really started picking up. Eventually, she decided to rent her own space, and opened the first women's salon on the base. Her clientele skyrocketed. Valente also decided to make space, and rent out chairs to local Italian stylists.

Jump forward a few years and Lauren Valente felt the pull to return to sunny San Diego and pursue her beauty business right here in California. After originally renting out a tiny suite, Valente was able to move into her current location, in the heart of La Jolla! Her Salon - called Valente Hair & Co.- is a five-star beauty experience. "I wanted my salon to encompass everything that a European high-class salon does. My clients are pampered from the time they walk in the door until they leave," says Valente.

Valente Salon: Not Your Average Hair and Beauty Stylist

Valente Hair & Co definitely spoils its guests, providing champagne, snacks, friendly staff, scalp massages, and a dreamy shampoo room. Clients leave feeling satisfied and gorgeous every time. The owner states, "I want my clients to experience all five of their senses. Beauty Salons should be an overwhelmingly pleasant experience". Now, Valente is even coming out with her own hair extensions, with a whole line of Valente brand products coming out in early 2018. One product to watch out for is her oil infused flat iron, which moisturizes the hair while straightening it! Valente will also be releasing six different oils and two topical serums in the collection.

So what is hot this year?

When asked what type of hair styles seem to be popular this season, Valente exclaimed, "Big Hollywood locks!" She has seen a lot of clients making the move towards the old 50s and 60s big style blowouts, as well as the combination of braids and half-does. This stylists observes that, "Buns and high ponies will be popular this fall. Keep a look out for these effortless styles."

All in all, Lauren Valente has a warm presence that reflects in her entire business, making guests feel at home and comfortable in the salon. "Valente" itself is an Italian word meaning: valiant, bold, and persistent. Which are autonomous with Lauren’s passionate attitude towards her business.
