The Wine Pub Point Loma

In the heart of Point Loma you can find exceptional food, delectable desserts and exquisite wines at The Wine Pub. The Wine Pub serves wine and beer to pair with delicious dishes in a warm, intimate setting. With these spring nights warming up in San Diego, The Wine Pub is the perfect neighborhood spot to unwind with a fabulous glass of wine right near the harbor.

Owner Sandy Hanshaw always had a passion for wine and with that passion she opened The Wine Pub 5 years ago, a place for winos, foodies and dog lovers to unite. This local gem offers a great space for an evening for friends and family to come together and enjoy the beautiful city of San Diego.

The Wine Pub offers 25 domestic and new world wines by the glass, as well as locally brewed beer on tap for those who prefer the frothy beverage. The Wine Pub focuses on New World and Domestic wines: wines hailing from Spain, Australia, New Zealand and California. Customers who want to bring the taste home can with retail sales onsite. You don’t need to know much about wine to enjoy your time at The Wine Pub but if you are curious the staff is friendly, educated and happy to engage in your wine experience.

I started my new world wine journey flight with a crisp Verdejo, Arindo from Spain, infused with the flavors of pineapple, pear and apple. The second wine was a full Meritage, Rancho Sisquoc from Santa Barbara County, fruity with a deep toasty vanilla oak. I finished my flight off with a Cabernet Sauvignon, Brady from Paso Robles: juicy blackberry, black currant and cassis, roasted vanilla and spice.

To go along with the wine, I chose their popular Bruschetta Trio, with fresh mozzarella, tomato, basil pesto and balsamic, roasted artichoke spread with roasted red bell pepper, fig jam, brie, fresh apple and prosciutto. And one must not forget about dessert! Their Banana Caramel Bread Pudding is to die for, especially when topped with vanilla bean ice cream and salted caramel!

The Wine Pub Point Loma Trio

Hanshaw’s personal picks? She recommends starting with a White Reisling with the Bruschetta Trio, then Pinot Noir with the Portobello Mushroom, homemade pesto, zucchini, goat cheese, kalamata tapenade and roasted bell peppers and, to finish, the Brady Cabernet Sauvignon with the Organic Chicken Sliders with homemade BBQ sauce, pickled onions and Asian slaw.

Along with a unique selection of wines and gourmet food, The Wine Pub’s heart belongs in the Point Loma community. Every Wednesday, bring your dog to Woofer Wednesday and 10% of your meal price will be donated to the The Rescue Dog. During the last weekend of October, they host a Bike for Boobs Breast Cancer Awareness fundraiser, where you bike around Shelter Island followed by a party on The Wine Pub patio. Your $25 donation includes a glass of wine or craft beer, appetizers, live music and a fantastic silent auction. All proceeds from this annual event go to Breast Cancer research. Their upcoming event is the Truffle and Port pairing on Tuesday March 10th from 6-8 p.m. Local port wine will be served and paired with truffles from Andrea's Truffles.
