Behind the Scenes of FINE Magazine's Pop Fiction Photoshoot!

February is upon us, and we promise a fun, flirty, and fantastic month full of exclusive content here at FINE magazine. How are we going kick this month off? Why, by taking you behind the scenes of our fabulous February photoshoot, of course! The February issue of the magazine features our energetic "Pop Fiction" photoshoot, inspired by the pop art style.

This photoshoot was a ton of fun for everyone involved, and we produced some amazing pictures, if I do say so myself. But I can’t take credit for everything. What most people don’t realize is that oftentimes, a photoshoot is a collaboration between many different people. For our "Pop Fiction" shoot, FINE magazine collaborated with Headlines the Salon to create something light, silly, and just a touch romantic.

We had to play up the romance aspect of the shoot, right? It’s February; isn’t ignoring romance and love against the law? In order to incorporate romance into our fun, pop art shoot, we had to ensure that the models’ make-up was sweet, and sometimes sassy. We played up the lip color and gloss to ensure that their lips popped, and we made sure they both had long, romantic lashes. Then, we went a step further and brought in a gorgeous male model with killer arms for us all to stare at (I think he was there to model clothing, but I may have been too dazzled by his smile to know for sure).

One other thing we really wanted to highlight in the photoshoot was a merging of seasons. While the rest of the country shivers from the Blizzard Jonas, San Diego is lucky enough to find the worst of the winter chill more or less over. Here, we find ourselves slowly transitioning from winter to spring, and I really wanted the fashion featured in this shoot to highlight that. So for the clothing we chose, we played with a myriad of styles. We paired brightly-colored skirts with 3/4 sleeve shirts, belly-baring shirts with long pants, and we even put one of the girls in a fur coat next to our shirtless male model (but can you blame me for that one?).

One little known fact is that all of the clothing we used was pulled locally from San Diego. We used fashions from small, local boutiques like the Del Mar Hat Co or the Vixen Pop-Up Boutique, as well as bigger local chains, such as Levi or Diane Von Furstenberg. Our goal in choosing local fashion is to embrace all of the fashion that San Diego has to offer, and to inspire the young designers and stylists who call San Diego home. We love working with new, young designers and doing exactly what we did for our "Pop Fiction" shoot: collaborating. Call me crazy, but I think it works; our "Pop Fiction" shoot certainly turned out beautifully.

Want to see the finished product? Pick up the February issue of FINE Magazine (out now!) and prepare to be stunned by our gorgeous girls and romantic male lead.
