Beauty Trends from Good to Bad
One thing is for sure, everything evolves and makeup is no different. Throughout the decades, we have seen so many different beauty trends from thin eyebrows to dramatic matte eyeshadows. This last year has been no different in its vast variety of beauty trends, filled with some of the best and worst looks, which makes this last year one to remember in the makeup community.
Best Trends

Floating Eye Liner
This makeup technique has only become famous within the last 8 years, with its introduction in the summer. This negative space allows for a look that is unique and captivating. This trend generates the look of bigger eyes, which has become very famous within the last 7 years. When this trend was invented, everyone didn’t know what to think about it because for years everyone had been trying to perfect the cat-eyed look, and now came this look with its negative eyeliner.
Best Trends

Cut Crease
Probably one of the most important beauty trends is the cut crease. While this look came out a long time ago, this trend is still seen in every beauty influencer's Instagram feed, because of its incredible lines. Artists like NikkiTutorials have perfected this look and made them envied by every makeup lover. This double-winged look can be stunning when done correctly.
Best Trends

Glitter
Glitter can be seen everywhere within the beauty community, and rightfully so because of its ability to dress up any makeup look. However, glitter isn’t just seen on the eyes as a way to accentuate them, but rather can be seen by anyone on the body. Certain makeup artists have even used glitter as a highlighter, especially in anticipation of Coachella. Whether you want a way to hide your roots in your hair or add a little extra shine to your makeup look, glitter is a staple that will never go out of business.
Best Trends

Ombre Lips
First, there was lipstick, then gloss, and then the introduction of matte lipstick. After all these different types of lipsticks, beauty influencers needed a way to step up the game. So then came ombre lips, with its dark edges to lighter colors, this beautiful transition can be worn with any look. Many times with beauty trends they are dramatic looks that no one would ever wear out in public, but with this natural or dramatic look, anyone has the ability to rock an ombre lip.
Best Trends

Neon Skull
Vanessa Davis or "the_wigs_and_makeup_manager" came up with this iconic neon skull, which started to put into every beauty influencer's mind one thing, neon. With her bright neon colors to match her dramatic skull looks, this breathtaking look has become a look everyone has wanted to try. These looks can be carried out with liquid eyeliner and bright matte eyeshadows, and if you ever want to try out this look, many makeup artists have made tutorials on their process. One of the best interpretations I have ever seen is by makeup artist Kristi "rawbeautykrisi", who captures the exact beauty of Vanessa Davis.
Worst Beauty Trends

Wavy Eyebrow
Now just like any other beauty lover, I think it is important to shape and define your eyebrows. It can give you a uniform dramatic or natural look, but sometimes beauty influencers take it too far. The wavy eyebrow trend started not too long ago when beauty influencers all over Instagram were shaping their eyebrows to make them seem wavy. Now at first this trend was funny, but then it seemed that some artists took it too seriously and started doing it with everyday looks.
Worst Trends

Feather Brows
After the wavy brow came the feathered brow. Stella Sironen was the first person to create this look in April of 2017. She used a glue stick in order to separate her brow hairs in order to get this look. At first, she meant it as a joke, telling everyone that she was starting a new makeup trend and to tag her in their own looks, but then it started to show up everywhere. This weird, almost disturbing look attracted the attention of many beauty influencers, and soon everyone was trying it out. However, it soon started to die out and was replaced with something else.
Worst Trends

Braided Brows
After the feathered brow came the braided brow, which is not at all humanly possible unless your brow hairs are incredibly long, which at then get it cut. However certain makeup artists thought it would be funny if they would Photoshop a braid onto their brows, in order to create this braided brow look. However after some of the photoshopped looks were leaked certain artists, such as Huda Kattan, tried to do this look with only a makeup applicator and brow cream.
Worst Trends

Faux Freckles
In 2018, freckles have become the envy of every makeup artist without them. Makeup artists all over Instagram have tried to acquire this "nature freckle look", but usually they end up looking too overdone. One of the hardest makeup looks to create is the appearance of natural freckles, usually, they either come out looking too dark or too consistent. While many makeup artists will try over and over again to make this beauty trend work, only scared individuals have actually done it.
Worst Trends

Weird Applicators
How this trend got started I have no idea, but the weirdest thing about this trend is some of the things makeup artists have used to apply makeup. Objects such as shoes, food, and even cutlery have been used to apply makeup. Why anyone thought this was a good idea to use these objects on someone’s face, especially an object that is sharp, is beyond me. However, makeup artists kept taking it a step further, in hopes of becoming internet famous.
Brought many new, interesting, and innovative trends. Stay tuned for the upcoming trends that emerge this year!
